Tested 7 Years Ago, Possibly Positive

Hello. I'm new here. I'll explain a little of my story, but first a specific question: has Mayo lab changed their reference range for the tTG IgA test in the past 7 years? I had that test (no other celiac tests) 7 years ago. I was told at the time it was negative, but I just ordered copies of previous lab work for a different reason (autoimmune thyroid disease) and saw that the value on the tTG test was 6.9. It says the reference range is <20 is negative, but I recalled an acquaintance being told she had a "weak positive". I looked up the Mayo lab reference range, and it says 4-9 is a weak positive. Any info on how to interpret this result would be very helpful. Thanks!

For background: I'm 34, female, currently gluten and dairy free and feeling good, IBS symptoms since childhood, autoimmune thyroid disease, horrible seasonal and animal allergies and also have a few food allergies.

Maybe its best to contact the Mayo clinic and ask them about your result?

Referance ranges vary between labs...that is why it is important to include ranges when discussing any lab work. The test you posted was indeed negative. Do you know if you had a Total Serum IgA test? This test measures the amount of IgA to see if you have enough to make the IgA based antibody tests (tTG, DGP, AGA) valid.

How long have you been gluten-free?

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's bad enough to fight for a diagnosis and manage this disease, but to have your partner use it as a weapon against you is truly devastating. What you're describing isn't just a lack of support; it's abuse, full stop. Controlling your food and money is cruel, and his pleasure in your misery is chilling. Please hear this: the kindness from that woman at the food pantry is what you deserve. It's a glimpse of the real world, where people care. You deserve to eat, to heal, and to have peace. His actions are the biggest barrier to your health right now, and you are not broken—you are surviving in an impossible situation. Don't give up on that lifeline you've found.

Thank you.. Christina My anxiety is through the roof.  I think it was from eggs.  I really don't know because my eyes feel sore. Like I'm allergic to them.  I was defient in B12.   My heart is pounding and it won't stop.  Not sure what to do.   I don't have much support other than this forum.    Colleen

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌
