"old" Test Results To Diagnose Celiac

Hello!

English is not my first language so please forgive me my mistakes.

 

1) I'm 19. When I was 9 I was in hospital on got tested for all different things causing gut problems.  My endoscopy with biopsy for celiac disease came back  negative and  back then my problems were caused by a different condition.

 

Does that results (from 10 years ago) mean that I do not have celiac disease now?

or does celiac disease develop over time?

 

2) Couple weeks ago I had total/general/regular IgG, IgM, IgA blood tests done (again for different problems).

They came back ok.

Would celiac disease show up here? Do I have to do Iga-ttG and IgA-EMA additionally?

Hi Aveirah,

 

Celiac Does develop over time.  And You would need the celiac specific tests to diagnose it.

I agree. If you are a person with a high risk of developing celiac disease (because family members have celiac disease) you should be testing every few years. Celiac can show up at any age. Some celiacs have a fine biopsy even though they have positive blood results - that could be something to consider.

 

The celiac disease tests are:

  • tTG IgA and tTG IgG
  • DGP IgA and DGP IgG
  • EMA IgA
  • total serum IgA (a control test)
  • AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older and less reliable tests)

The total IgM, IgG, and IgA are just tests to check the immune function in various parts of your body. They are not celiac tests, so you will (as you said) need more tests done. Make sure you keep eating gluten or the tests will not be accurate.

It can develop at any age, that is why my children will have to be tested every year. My 8 year old tested negative but he could test postive next year. I developed mine at age 39 but suspect it runs in my family. My Grandfather died of colon cancer and I have an aunt and an uncle with type 1 diabities but they haven't been tested for Celiac even though they have symptoms

      I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep.This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I get the shakes...

      I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

      Do Gluten Enzymes actually work?

      If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.

I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute,and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.
