Hi , I have had stomach problems for a long time on and off for years  , over the last few years it has got worse , my doctor originally diagnosed ibs , just by my symptoms , he gave me colofac , but I went back to him a few weeks ago where he did a blood test.ttd -iga,  The results he said were positive for Coeliac, he said the lab reports  stated a "strong possibility of Coeliac disease ", I dont go to the toilet every day , I can eat bread and other things , sometimes my stools are quite normal , but othertimes i have an urgency to rush to the toilet, then sometimes they float , are sticky.

The doc has me down for an endescopy biopsy to confirm , but i would of thought i would have symtoms all of the time if i was Coeliac , I dont remember the numbers on the blood test , are the test quite accurate ? Many thanks.

The blood tests are very accurate if you are eating gluten when they are performed--which it sounds like you were.  There are over 300 symptoms for Celiac and even then, some people have no symptoms.  When is your scope scheduled?

Hi , I have just received a letter for the hospital the scope should be in the next couple of weeks , the doctor has me marked as "urgent", which worried me , although he did say the other tests , liver and blood were ok , just the Coeliac was abnormal

Keep eating gluten until after the endoscopy is completed to get the best, most accurate results. He may have just marked it urgent to get a quicker time slot so you can go gluten-free and start feeling better.

My doctors think I have had undiagnosed Celiac for most of my life, 37 years.  My symptoms were on again, off again for years.  Sometimes I would actually feel good.  The last two years is when it got to be really bad, an almost every day occurrence. Celiac is a weird disease and never consistent.  Hope you get to feeling better once you can start your gluten free diet.  Welcome to the board.

Since you are still going to be eating gluten until all tests are done, I would suggest studying up a little.  There is a "newbie" thread under the Coping section the is really helpful and try and learn about cross contamination.

Welcome to the forum!

Some Celiacs get what are thought of as atypical symptoms or no outward symptoms at all.  The blood test is a good indicator of the autoimmune activity that accompanies Celiac, and the endoscopy will give you a good idea of what kind of damage is going on in there.  The doctor probably marked you as urgent so you would be scheduled in ahead of the people who are just getting their routine checkup scopes done.

It is likely that you will be told to go gluten-free, so I would take this time to eat up what is in your pantry, and research the gluten-free diet a little bit.  Here is a link to the newbie thread that others have mentioned: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask us!  Let us know how the endoscopy goes.

Thank you for the replies , I'll keep eating the gluten till the tests are completed , it is all a bit out of the blue for me , i'll check the newbie threads too , thanks again.

what Benfotiamine should I take as Life Extension contains both Ben and TTFD.
    • knitty kitty
I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.
