Myrtle Beach gluten-free Options!

Found two very Celiac friendly places in Myrtle Beach.  First was Captain George's Seafood Buffet--yes Buffet!!  Open Original Shared Link  ,  When you let your server know you have food allergies, Celiac, etc. they bring the manager over to your table, he walks you through the buffet line and shows you what is safe and what is not.  The salad bar has one side that does not have any gluten items on it, the other side has the croutons, etc. so no risks of CC.  He said that they changed some of the recipes for some of their dishes so they are gluten-free.  Then places where CC could be a problem the set up two pans of the same thing (vegetables, etc.) so there isn't a risk of someone using a glutened spoon in the second pan.  For other food that is close to gluten that they can't set up two pans, they bring you some from the kitchen so it's not exposed to anything.  In my case it was chicken and prime rib.  The au jus for the prime rib is not gluten-free so they bring you out a fresh slice that was not in au jus.  It was wonderful!!

The second was a pancake place called Akel's Family Restaurant.  They have gluten-free pancakes!!  They are very knowledgeable about Celiac and walk you through how they prepare the food so it's safe.  They use a potato flour for their gluten-free pancakes.  He brought out two bottles of syrup, one for the gluten eaters and he said it contained barley malt so it was not gluten-free, the second was a certified gluten-free syrup.  The pancakes were very good!!

I've been to Akel's and it was wonderful! They didn't even charge more than the rest of the meals for ours!

Landshark Bar and Grill also has gluten free buns and a separate fryer for the tots and fries!

I am a HUGE Myrtle lover and it's been nice to find some options there!

Went to Captain George's Buffet last night & agree with SMRI.  Great experience.  The manager walked me through the line.  He is very knowledgable and will even have kitchen cook an alternative to what is in the buffet. For example, the pork has a sauce that has gluten, but he will have kitchen cook some up fresh without the sauce for you.  He even brought out Udi dinner rolls for me and showed me the packaging so I could be assured they were Udis.  He even stopped by table a few times to make sure I was doing well.  I gourged on the crab legs.  I had no issues from eating there and would highly recommend it if you are in Myrtle Beach.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
