Questions About Breads And Different Symptoms

I am finding that I react differently to different breads. With pizza and noodles and white loaf bread I get horrible migraines. With things like cookies and biscuits, cinnamon rolls I sneeze my head off for about ten minutes then it's over. I can eat a hamburger with the bun and get by with mild constipation. Is there more gluten in some things than others? I'm not quite understanding. It's all gluten....?

You are new right? Your gut is a mess. It takes time to heal (up to 2 or 3 years). It is best to do whole foods, keep a food journal (help identify intolerances) and eliminate all milk products (damaged villi can not release the enzymes to digest things like milk lactose.

Sbwife, are these gluten free breads and baked goods you are eating, or regular baked goods that do contain wheat and gluten?

To clarify..yes I am new. These are not gluten-free breads. I have suspected gluten intolerance, noticing different symptoms with different things. A GI doctor I have seen agrees I may be intolerant. I've tried 100% gluten-free and symptoms improved dramatically. So I am transitioning back to gluten-free. I was just curious why I don't have the sMe symptoms for all breads... Curious if anyone knows. I am new.

Well, for different regular gluteny breads, there are going to be different levels of gluten.   That question has been asked on the forum before, and the bottom line is that we aren't going to have an answer for that.  The answer to any problem with gluten is to cut it out 100%, a low gluten diet type of thing is not going to fully help anyone with an actual medical issue.  Things like pizza dough tend to be made with a higher gluten flour, if that helps, but since you are experiencing things like sneezing, it sounds like there is an actual allergy in there somewhere to something you are eating.  You also may be eating a higher quantity of the gluten containing product when you eat things like pizza and pasta as compared to a hamburger bun.  But the cookies, biscuits, and cinnamon rolls making you sneeze sounds like it is an issue to something else so you may want to keep a food journal and write down all the ingredients in things that make you sneeze, so that way you may be able to pinpoint what it is so you can avoid it.

I didn't realize this topic has already been addressed. A food diary is a good idea. I will do that. For myself, I am suspecting a lactose intolerance as well. I have had gluten-free protein shakes and have sneezed as well as eating gluten-free cereal and sneezing. I haven't addressed that issue yet....but I am starting to take things out of my diet and see what happens.

      More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

      I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50.       BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.

      You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

      Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.
