Headaches

My little guy, Dylan has had a set back about 2 weeks ago and seems to be struggling more this time. Since then he has been complaining of headaches. Since he is 4, I am not too sure if I should be alarmed or is this common with Celiac's. He has been to his doctor for flu shot and they checked his ears and nothing, so it's not ear related. I just wondered if maybe it is due to the lack of nutrients and such. Any one have these and maybe shed some light...or do I get it looked into more? 4 year olds shouldn't have headaches much, right?

Yes, headaches can be associated with gluten intake. It usually takes me about two weeks or so for "cluster" headaches to subside. If he ate glutens, then it could be associated with Celiac.

I hadn't thought of him needing glasses, but...

He was 'glutened' about 2 weeks ago now and he seems to be having a hard time recovering. His tummy is just hurting and gurbling all the time. The swelling is back down, but he just seems to be struggling.

My little girl gets headaches after a gluten accident. They seem to come and go for a while. There was one point where she was holding her head and screaming.......really freaked me out! I've had headaches myself since I was 5, and one crazy doc had me on Tylenol w/Codiene at that age. So, I'm assuming headaches are a common symptom of celiac.

One other thing you may look out for, if you haven't already....is that sometimes the first symptoms of strep throat are a headache and upset stomach. My 6 year old has those sx's before his throat hurts at all.

Getting his eyes checked wouldn't be a bad idea. My son (21 now) had headaches frequently with no other medical cause around the time he started school. He was screened at school, we were notified of a potential vision problem, took him to an Optomitrist who confirmed he needed glasses. Hope your little guy feels better soon!

I would definitely follow up with eyes and other things, its so hard to tell with kids, but I had constant headaches before I went gluten-free, I now I only have them when my sinus allergies kick in.
