Thyroid Drs?

hello all :)

so I went to the OB/GYN the other day and explained that I wanted to change my OCP since being diagnosed with celiac disease. I had problems absorbing it etc.

Well, after giving some other information about what I was experiencing, the nurse asked me if I had ever been tested for over active thyroid? Nope sure hadn't. Well, she told me that she thought I had it. I had never heard of it, but looked up info, and it seems to be right on the money, unfortunately.

Does anyone know what Dr you can go to in order to get the thyroid test? I believe it is THS... a blood test? Does it fall under endocrinology??

Thanks so much!

I had a bunch of blood tests done last week by my Family Practioner. Among other things, they tested my TSH--I believe that is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.

Any doctor can order the tests. Besides TSH you should also have Free T4 and Free T3 tested as well. Those are the three tests I always do to check my levels. Also if you do have overactive thyroid you should ask to see an endocrinologist.

The tests can be ordered by your doctor then have the results of the tests sent to the endocrinologists for diagnoses. Auto-immune thyroid disease has a higher occurance with Celiac patients. Search for Graves Disease (over active thyroid symptoms). Grave's is the most common Celiac connection. Another search Hashimoto's thyroiditis ( can flip-flop from over active to underactive until finally life long underactive). Some of the pre-screening tests T3, T4, TSH blood tests, an ultrasound of the thyroid, and thyroid function/uptake test.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
