Anyone? Bueller?

And if there's anyone from LA, I was wondering if there was a good support group up there. The one in OC meets so infrequently that I've missed the one event they've had since I found out about them.

Hello :)

I'm in LA. We had a meeting a few months ago. The first and only one so far, I think, lol - all of us from this site, so it was fun :)

There is celiac.org which is HQ in the Valley, and has periodic events (educational, eating, etc) and they have little offshoot regional groups in LA, so you may want to hook up with them.

PM me with your email or name or whatever, and if we have another meeting, we'll get you on the list ;-) I've been thinking of having a holiday party with all gluten-free foods, but not sure if I'll actually be able to pull it off (I HATE party planning, lol).

I'm from Orange County. LA is too far for me to go for meetings, but I'd be interested in finding out who else locally wants to share information.

For those in the Los Angeles area (Westside/Hollywood), esp those from our "mini" support group, I just found out about a massive CDF meeting in Marina Del Rey on the 26th of Feb. The invite list is like 63 people long. There will be food from gluten-free-friendly restaurants in the LA area, and recipe swapping.

If you would like to go, email me at elle871@yahoo.com and I will evite you to the email addy you send me.

** Sorry, its Feb 26th, the sunday. Woops.

Hi - do youknow that the Orange County group is having dinner out on Thursday, April 27th? If you'd like to join us, please call Shari at714-921-2133. We meet about every other month. For more information about the support group please call 714-750-9543. We'd love to have you join us.

I'm in the San Diego area... don't forget the big conference in L.A. on May 20th and the fundraising walk/art auction in San Diego the same day! I think they're listed on the calendar section of this site if you want details.

I'm from California too, the bay area though. I was looking for a support group as well, maybe for teens. You guys probably wouldn't know as much about the bay area though. LoL.

BUT I figured you guys might know about restaraunts...I'm going to L.A. in a few months and I was wondering how to go about finding info about restaraunts in L.A. online. i have HORRIBLE food sensitivities now, but im expecting to be better by then. Does anyone know of any restaraunts that I could go gluten-free in? I heard that L.A. has some great healthy restaraunts but I can't find a thing online!

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

That's great news, you can do this.  Let us know how things go and don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. Cristiana 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
