Itchy skin

Not only do I have dry skin, but I deal with DH and horrible itchy skin for a few weeks after accidental gluten.  Im still not doing so well with the hidden gluten and forget that I have celiac sometimes.  I'm not out there eating a loaf of bread, but i may take a mint when I leave restaurant and eat it before I realize. oh, crap, I probably shouldn't have had that.  Im still navigating "gluten free" menus.  I was on the road for work, and thought Cosi was a good bet.  They had some gluten free dishes.  But, I was super sick within an hour, and started thinking. how do they really deal with cross contamination with all of that bread?

In any event.  the itchy skin is enough to cause me to jump out of my skin.

Any good solutions out there?  im actually not dealing with DH and haven't had any since just before my diganosis.  This time its just itchy skin.  All over.

I have DH and itchy skin is a symptom.     Your Dermatologist could write a script for Dapsone, provided you're not allergic to Sulphur.     Expect blood labs to go with using Dapsone.      You need to study everything that goes in your mouth for possible gluten content, including all meds.

Cool compresses may help a bit. Hot baths or showers used to really aggravate my itchy skin so go with warm or cool ones to see if it helps. Keep well hydrated both inside and out. Be sure to check and make sure any lotions you use are gluten free. Shea butter, olive or coconut oil may help.

Since you say this is not DH, no blisters etc. I would not advise Dapsone. It is quite a toxic med but if you do talk to your doctor about it make sure that they do blood work before prescribing and frequently during the time you are on it.  Some celiacs have liver impact and Dapsone can be damaging to the liver.

I also had both DH and the all over itchies. Being strictly gluten free and avoiding obvious sources of iodine like iodized salt or iodine in supplements will help you heal.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.

I wasn’t clear, glucagon and gadolinium were intravenous. I drank about 5 cups of the prep during 45 minutes. I feel very tired now, probably partly because I was nervous, and partly because I had to fast for 6 hours beforehand and wasn’t very hungry when I got home.

That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
