Abscessed wisdom tooth and removal

Quite honestly this is one of the most painful things ever. And I've had two kids so I'm not being a wimp. I'm scheduled to get all my wisdom teeth removed Monday. Really freaked out. I'm wondering if meds will impact me differently because of the celiac. I used to respond well to meds, but since Sunday I've been on penicillin then switched to amoxicillin after the first wasn't working. And I've gone through four pain meds. Now on hydrocodone. It's ridiculous and it's all destroying my stomach. Any thoughts or suggestions?  No horror stories please.

The penicillin not working is just because the bacteria that is causing an infection isn't killed by that particular antibiotic.  That should have nothing to do with Celiac. 

 

When your gut has healed from Celiac, you should be absorbing medications better.  Maybe this is just a really painful and nasty infection?

I had my impacted wisdom teeth taken out years ago and it went well.  I recovered fast.  I recall drinking lots of milkshakes and smoothies!  

An abcess is painful!  Hang in there!  If you are concerned about the antibotic absorbing, you could get a shot!  That is what they gave us in the old days.  But you should be healed at this point  from celiac disease unless you were recently glutened.  

Try a heating pad and rinsing often with salt water (if the infection is close to the surface).  In any case, both might make you "feel" better.  

Karen is right.  It could be a really nasty bacteria.   Give it some more time. ?

I have no wisdom about the celiac effect but wanted to sympathise. I had an abscess last year and I was on codeine, tramadol and voltaren while waiting for antibiotics to kick in and a dental appointment and MAN do I agree with you. It was the worst pain ever and childbirth doesnt even come close to that kind of intensity. I actually considered stepping in front of a train at one point.   

 

On the plus side the moment they opened and drained the abscess the pain was 100% gone.  I actually cried from relief.  The dentist gave me more tramadol to take home but I didnt need it.  Good luck.

I'm finally in the mend. Abscess, then four wisdom teeth out then dry sockets then stomach flu. April was awesome. But I survived!

      Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

      The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
