Prep for scope

So I have a scope monday and tomorrow is prep day no solids or colored foods. I have jello made with coconut water and chicken stock, I have a bunch of broths ready for me to drink all day, along with the laxative regime I am mixing with tea and coconut water. But I have a question.....Can I drink RAW pasteurized carton egg whites? I do not see myself getting enough protein to maintain my muscle mass and am a bit concerned about loosing more weight on just bone broths and jello.

Hi I'm a GI nurse so all I do every day is sedate patients for scopes.  No you can not eat egg whites.  Anything besides clear liquids will produced poop which is something we don't want.  You will not lose any mass from one day without food.   Just make sure you are drinking lots of broth, tea, juice and Gatorade.  Only colors you need to avoid is red and purple.  Apple juice and white grape juice will give you added sugars to help you get through your day as well as lemon, orange and lime jello!  Just make sure you are drinking lots that is the most important part as the liquids you drink is what will help flick out your colon.

Thanks I think I will be fine, I managed to put on about 2lbs prior, Took 3scoops of protein powder before bed last night + 1 in the middle of the night and spent most of yesterday trying to sit in a chair and do yoga instead of power walking to relax. Took my meds early this morning and will have a hour before my broth/jello breakfast and I am supposed to start my laxative regime in 6 hours.

Side notes, I can not have much high calorie/sugar juice as it causes  me to bloat, get gassy, and even distend normally. I am going with coconut water, and a few watered down juices for natural electrolytes and sugars, along with jello versions of both juice and broths (separate) to eat. I also was told I could have coffee so I cold brewed a low acidic version with chopped dates in the grounds. Hoping this works out, fine I think it should.

Well I did nothing but drink juice, broth, magnesium citrate, and 2 containers of miralax yesterday........I have not had a bowl movement since yesterday morning. I am thinking back to the past and I never really had much luck with laxatives when I used to have chronic constipation over 3 years ago. Since then I have maintained a 50-90g of fiber a day intake to regulate it. Yesterday was no fiber at all and I have that constipation pain in my lower right side like I used to where I can feel a hard lump and sloshing noises even this morning. I do no think the docs will be happy, I always joked about a dead section where stuff would back up in my intestines if I stopped stuffing myself to keep it moving, there might be some truth to this -_-

I drank more miralax the morning of the scope since I did not go  the night before with a full double bottle. Still nothing 8 hours later with no food or liquids I went in to get the scope I weighed 128.6lbs. They put me under and when I came out they said there was too much poop in there and they could not do the scope......I went home and feeling really hungry since I had not eaten any solids in over 42 hours had a scoop of protein power since I was hurting and started to fix dinner. I then had to run to the restroom and spent the next 3 hours in there.....I weighed 123lbs when I was done.

Is there a chance my system just locks up when there is no solids coming in like a starvation thing? or is this just a odd timing issue? I mean I go from consuming 150g+ a day of protein and 50-90g of fiber to under 20g of protein and 0 fiber I think some kind of shock to the system would have happened.

No, it means that because you have intestinal damage, it takes longer for you to process food.  Anemia was my only symptom (or so I thought) when I was diagnosed, but I was constipated too.  I had a BM everyday, so I did not realize it.  My GI advised a double prep -- meaning a liquid diet for several days instead of just one.  Maybe this is the reason.  Talk to your GI.

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
