Hi,

I am deeply sorry for posting on here again. As I am scheduled for an Endoscopy on the 9th May, I wanted to make sure that my gluten intake is being kept the same. I was wondering if the ingredients to these products contain gluten even though dextrose is in one of them?

Yes the first has wheat gluten in the ingredients, the second via the wheat flour.

Here in the UK manufacturers HAVE to highlight gluten sources. Check the ingredients and if WHEAT, BARLEY, or RYE are mentioned *usually highlighted, italicised or underlined, then you will know there's gluten.

Most of iceland's processed foods will probably be gluten filled to be honest. Any breadcrumbed or battered foods for instance. 

Ps, you and me both have another disease, the british one of apologising :P You don't need to, you're very welcome here and all of your questions are valid and understandable. It's going to get better :)

Hi Dalek,

JMG has it right, any food with wheat, rye or barley is a gluten containing food.  In addition, watch out for malt, which is sometimes made from barley.  That includes the malt in beers. :(

Thank you for all your help with this. 

I was also wondering if I could ask and hope you don't mind, will they be able to tell Celiac on the camera or will it be down to the biopsies they take? My endoscopy is on the 9th, and I am worried about not having enough gluten to show.

The gi may be able to see some signs of celiac visually but the chances are you will have to wait a couple of weeks for the biopsies before there's any confirmation. The damage to the villi is too small to detect with naked eye I think.

as long as your eating some gluten each day you will have done all you can for a diagnosis. Not long now so go ahead and treat yourself to a nice cheesecake, fish and chips etc. :)

      In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.

      Welcome to the forum, @catsrlife! Celiac disease can be diagnosed without committing to a full-blown "gluten challenge" if you get a skin biopsy done during an active outbreak of dermatitis herpetiformis, assuming that is what is causing the rash. There is no other known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis so it is definitive for celiac disease. You would need to find a dermatologist who is familiar with doing the biopsy correctly, however. The samples need to be taken next to the pustules, not on them . . . a mistake many dermatologists make when biopsying for dermatitis herpetiformis.

      You state in an earlier post that you don't have celiac disease. Here in this post you state you will "be doing another test". What will this test be looking for? What kind of celiac disease testing have you had done? If you have used a Entero Labs it sounds like you have had stool testing done for celiac disease which is not widely accepted as a valid celiac disease diagnostic testing method. Have you had blood antibody testing for celiac disease done and do you realize that for antibody testing to be valid you must have been eating generous amounts of gluten for a period of weeks/months?

      No, I've not been diagnosed as celiac.  Despite Entero Labs being relocated to Switzerland/Greece, I'll be doing another test. After eating wheat products in Greece for 4 weeks, there wasn't any reaction.  However, avoiding it here in the states.   Thanks everyone for your responses.
