Weight loss concern

Hi , I'm slightly concerned with some weight loss I've been having , I've lost 5Ib in 7 weeks , I went from 11stone 5lb to 11stone , I weighed myself this morning , I haven't altered my diet and over the last couple of weeks , I started to eat more when I realised the weight loss was there , it has made no difference .I have been gluten free since August 2016. 

 A recent blood panel last month showed elevated calcium , high end of normal , but my parathyroid had come down to normal levels , they also did an electropheresis test for myeloma which i didn't know about , that came back negative.

Eat more fats, with seeds and nuts, the zinc, iron, and healthy fats help with keeping lean muscle up. If your on dairy you might want to drop it. I assume you are on dairy or some dairy alternative with calcium enrichment? Perhaps your taking tums, or some thing else with calcium in it. All good in moderation but try to cut it in half to lower you calcium intake a bit, calcium can block magnesium absorption as they use the same channels and this can lead muscle and nerve break down in the long run. Unlike some other nutrients that are harmless with each meal some nutrients need to be taken in meal rotations if they use the same channel to optimize absorption or taken in combinations.

I use BCAAs or scoops of a vegan protein powder in shakes and to maintain my weight and build muscles. Vegan proteins like pumpkin are high in zinc, pea protein is high in iron and magnesium and various trace minerals, sancha inchi is a good in its own right high in zinc, iron, and magnesium.

Hi , thanks for the reply, the reason my calcium is quite high is because my parathyroid gland was all out of sync when I was first diagnosed , it controls the calcium levels in the blood, my parathyroid was taking the calcium from my bones and dumping it into my blood, hence I also have osteoporosis because of this  disease. I cant understand why i'm losing weight again , going to have to keep an eye on it all.

Are you celiac?  Have you had follow-up testing?  I know I can drop weight fast after a hidden gluten exposure.

Hi , yes I’m a celiac, I had the endo done Aug 2016 , shows very smooth  intestinal walls and lots of patchy inflammation etc , my latest bloods showed a drop in my antibodies 10.7 , so down from15.5 , maybe I had gluten exposure somewhere, but it’s a little concerning to me , I still eat like a horse ,

Do you know what the cause is of hyperparathyroidism? And,
is your blood glucose ok?

Hi , no I don’t know the cause of pars hyperthyroidism, but he did say that my level was back to normal, they didn’t test for my glucose

You may want to count your calories for a week or so to make sure you are eating enough.  When I was diagnosed with Celiac I had to change my diet COMPLETELY.  I went from eating mainly carbs and dairy to eating mainly fruits and veggies and I lost about 15 pounds (that I didn't have to lose) in about 4 weeks.  My GI doc recommended that I count my calories and drink gluten-free/Dairy free protein shakes twice a day until I got the hang of the diet and found more things I could eat that were more calorie dense. Once I got my energy back and had the energy to cook and grocery shop more often eating an abundance of foods became much easier. I am now 6 months into the diet and I am keeping weight on just fine, and have gained about 5 pounds back.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll try cutting out the carbs , the only dairy I have is milk in tea . I’ve been on the gluten-free diet for nearly two years now , I do eat a lot of carbs , but this last week I have been ravenous, pretty much how I was before I was diagnosed, my wife couldn’t fill me and combined with the weight loss I think this shouldn’t be happening .

      Your DGP-G is also high. The thing to do now would be to trial the gluten-free diet for a few months to see if there is improvement in symptoms.

      Welcome to the forum, @Roses8721! How long were you off gluten before getting the celiac blood testing done? The testing is not valid after having been gluten free for a significant period of time. Many of your symptoms align with celiac disease.

      Hello, I am feeling frustrated. I have hEDS and lifelong digestive issues but my GI PA is very focused on my celiac panel and I just want to make sure that she should be focused on that because completely changing my diet seems to have worsened my symptoms.  Symptoms are constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux with spicy foods and certain foods like tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions. I also don't have a gallbaldder as it was removed almost a year ago. This also exacerbated my symptoms. I did have joint pain from hEDS but that was already treated with low dose naltrexone about 4 months prior to going completely gluten free. Endoscopy was abnormal but inconclusive; basically showed some inflammation - which common with hEDS. I don't have any vitamin deficiency.   Celiac Panel Results: TTG-A <0.5 U/ML Reference Range: 0.5-14.9 U/ML NEGATIVE: <15 POSITIVE: =>15 DGP-A 72.0 U/ML Reference Range: 0.2-14.9 U/ML NEGATIVE: <15 POSITIVE: =>15 TTG-G <0.8 U/ML Reference Range: 0.8-14.9 U/ML NEGATIVE: <15 POSITIVE: =>15 DGP-G 24.0 U/ML Reference Range: 0.4-14.9 U/ML NEGATIVE: <15 POSITIVE: =>15 IgG-A-M Results: IMMUNOGLOBULIN A, QN, SERUM 165 MG/DL Reference Range: 87-352 MG/DL IMMUNOGLOBULIN M, QN, SERUM 164 MG/DL Reference Range: 26-217 MG/DL   What are your thoughts, internet?       Help. I’m spiraling. Years of extensive symptoms:  What could this be? Years of: Mildly elevated alk and alt Fatty liver Random days of feeling like I’m coming down w flu but no fever and nobody else in house sick Intermittent diarrhea Severe abdominal distension Long history of cavities and enamel deficiency Sound sensitivity Anxiety and depression Low libido Sun skin allergy Frequent fatigue ended up seeing PCP because I looked 8 mo preg. Started gluten-free diet then celiac serology negative. SW GI Dr dx me w celiac as I had been in bed for 3 days after eating gluten after cutting. GI said not to do biopsy because it was clear what was going on and added to chart. My spiral is not seeing anywhere this is done and want to see if anyone else has dealt w this. If not celiac idk what else I will do. Family history or celiac as well as a death related to this.

      I get canker sores one hour after eating Oats, and pimples in my butt.
