Almost Glutened by a Raven !!

The purpose of this little story is to give you all a smile and to say gluten lurks everywhere, even where we least expect it!

We live in a rural area with a lot of wild creatures close by.  Yesterday a raven flew overhead and dropped a piece of whole wheat bread, smack, in the middle of our small doggie yard.  We saw the raven fly over and we saw it drop the bread!  We were in the doggie yard in a heartbeat to retrieve the bread before any dogs could find it.  I couldn't help but laugh at the thought that had we not seen it happen, had one of the dogs eaten that bread and then given me a slurpy doggie kiss - ooops!  I could have been a little sick that night and never known the true why!

Very believeable Elijah!  Is your back yard near a brook?  Did they bring you hot dogs too? :)

Oh my gosh! You are so right; you would have driven yourself crazy trying to figure out how you had gotten glutened. I'm glad you saw it happen & were able to retrieve it before the doggies could get it. Now that the danger is over; it is a funny story.

Possibly gluten withdrawal. Lot's of info on the internet about it. Somewhat controversial but apparently gluten plugs into the same neuro sensors as opiates do and some people get a similar type withdrawal as they do when quitting opiates. Another issue is that gluten-free facsimile flours are not fortified with vitamins and minerals as is wheat flour (in the U.S. at least) so when the switch is made to gluten-free facsimile foods, especially if a lot of processed gluten-free foods are being used as substitutes, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can result. There is also the possibility that she has picked up a virus or some but that is totally unrelated to going gluten-free.

Daughter has started gluten free diet this week as per gastroenterologists suggestion. However says she feels more tired and like she’s been hit by a train. I suggested it could be the change to gluten free or just stress from the endoscopy last week catching up with her. Just wondering if feeling more tired is a normal reaction at this stage. I suppose it’s possible some gluten might have been present without realising. Have tried to reassure her it’s not going to resolve symptoms overnight

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.
