Just a tip here:

I'm not sure if anybody has Posted in the past in regards to "Tom's of Maine" Natural care Toothpaste & Mouthwash, but I had heard about this stuff via the Internet. {it is all natural & "gluten-free."} Well... while out shopping at our local Wal-Mart the other day, I actually got lucky enough to hit-up on some of the "Tom's of Maine" Products! (and heck, I didn't even know they sold this there!) This is what I purchased, & also along with the Price I paid for the items:

Tom's of Maine Natural Cleansing Mouthwash: {Spearmint} 1 pint 8 fl.oz. was $5.82

Tom's of Maine Natural Antiplaque plus Whitening (Gel) Toothpaste: (Peppermint) was $2.97

The Mouthwash comes in a round, clear plastic bottle, & is a completely clear liquid, (looks like water) and let me tell you, that stuff has some "kick" to it!! (it would kill anybody's "garlic & Onion breath!") Laugh!! :D

The Toothpaste came in a box, and the toothpaste tube is inside of it, like regular brands... This is a clear "gel" Toothpaste, and has a wonderfully, strong flavor to it. I was skeptical about buying some of these more "expensive" Products, as I was use to the ole` CHEAP brands, such as Pepsodent, etc; etc;.... but let me tell you, a person doesn't need to use much of these Products, & they tend to go a long ways! I was pleased with my find here, & also very happy that our local Wal-Mart Stored carried this.

I just had to share my new Product search here, & the personal experience I've had with this... it's a good Product for me so far, & takes care of the issues with "gluten" in my mouth!! Anybody else try these same Products before?

I use Tom's toothpaste and floss. Just watch out for the kids orange flavored TP, as it has gluten in it.

Thanks for the "tip" here Jen! :D:D ... I'm sure folks with kids out here need to know this. I've only tried the Tom's of Maine in the flavors I posted above, and so far, I really like it... their Products sure have a "kick" to it! Strong stuff! :rolleyes: Thanks for Posting!

Are you referring to the "outrageous orange-mango" for kids? :huh:

I switched from the TOM'S Spearmint to the kids orange-mango and silly strawberry because I got all paranoid about salicylates.

Sheeesh...I kinda got negligent about checking for gluten. :(

I got new blisters on my face and in my mouth + loose stools but I thought I was 100% gluten-free so I figured something else is causing these symptoms.

Ummm...anyways is the orange-mango gluten-free or not. On the website it claims only two of their products contain gluten and neither of those items are toothpaste. :unsure:

The ingredients have no obvious gluten....just "natural flavors".

I only use the Tom's of Maine 'kid' flavors because all the adult flavors contain mannitol (or another sorbitol like artificial sweetner) which gives me intense cramps and bloating and diarrhea (which I don't even get from gluten or dairy or soy). I read in 'Dangerous Grains' how celiacs with 'leaky gut syndrome' are often sensitive to the 'tol' artificial sweetners. So perhaps that explains my problem with adult flavors.

Ok...I'm answering my own post. I checked out TOM's website and it doesnt say anything about the toothpaste containing gluten. Open Original Shared Link

I lokked at the Delphi list and this is what it says. "Note that the orange-mango toothpaste is being considered gluten-y because the orange flavor is grain distilled rather than steam distilled."

I thought we didnt have to worry about anything thats been distilled? I'm so confused. :unsure:

      @Gigi2025  Thank you for your interesting post.  Some of what you say chimes with something my gastroenterologist tells me - that he has clients who travel to France and find the same as you  - they will eat normal wheat baguette there without issue, for example.  His theory was he thought it might be to do with the locally sourced wheat being different to our own in the UK? But I have to say my own experience has been quite different. I have been to France twice since my diagnosis, and have been quite ill due to what was then (pre-2019)  poor labelling and cross-contamination issues.  My TTG test following my last visit was elevated - 'proof of the pudding', as we say in the UK!  It was not just a case of eating something like, say, shellfish, that disagreed with me - gluten was clearly an issue. I've also been to Italy to visit family a couple of times since my diagnosis.  I did not want to take any chances so kept to my gluten free diet, but whilst there what I did notice is that coeliacs are very well catered for in Italy, and many brands with the same ingredients in the UK are clearly marked on the front of their packaging that they are 'senza glutine'.  In the UK, you would have to find that information in the small print - or it puts people off buying it, so I am told!  So it seems to me the Italians are very coeliac aware - in fact, all children are, I believe, screened for coeliac disease at the age of 6.  That must mean, I guess, that many Italian coeliacs are actively avoiding gluten because, presumably, if they don't, they will fall ill?

      Thank you both very much. I’m pretty familiar with the various tests, and my older two girls with official dxs have even participated in research on other tests as well. I just felt overwhelmed and shocked that these recent results (which I found pretty dang conclusive after having scott clean labs just six months ago) would still be considered inconclusive. Doc said we could biopsy in another six weeks because my daughter was actually way more upset than I anticipated about the idea of eating it for years before doing another biopsy. It doesn’t hurt her, but she’s afraid of how it may be hurting her in ways she can’t feel. She’s currently eating mini wheats for breakfast, a sandwich with lunch, and a side of pasta along with every dinner, so I’m hoping we’re meeting that 10g benchmark mentioned in that second article!

      Have you tried a genetic test to look for Celiac genes?  No gluten challenge required.

      Hello, @ElisaAllergiesgluten, Have you tried going on a low histamine Paleo diet like the Autoimmune Protocol diet?  A low histamine AIP diet would help your body rid itself of the extra histamine it's making in response to allergies.  Are you Celiac as well?   Since we need more thiamine when we're stressed, adding Benfotiamine, a form of Thiamine Vitamin B 1, can help the body calm down it's release of histamine.  Benfotiamine improves Sailors' asthma.
