Diagnosed 10 days ago - gut still feels a little sore

Hello,

I was diagnosed with celiac 10 days ago after have an endoscopy and blood test for celiac.

For the last week I've been trying to eat no gluten, and we've overhauled our kitchen to remove anything that might have traces of gluten in it, including our toaster and kitchen utensils.

My question is, when should I start to see some improvement in my gut?  I've been having pain/discomfort since August, which is what prompted me to get tested in the first place.  The local hospital can't get me an appointment with the nutritionist for another week yet.

Thanks for your time, I'm going crazy with fear here.

It can take months or up to a year to completely heal. A single reaction go gluten from cross contamination can keep antibodies raised and the body attacking for up to 6 weeks. Be patient with it and learn the diet, sticking to whole foods can help. Few tips, remove dairy for while as the enzymes to break it down are produced by the tips of the villi which are destroyed by celiac. Oats should be avoided even gluten free purity ones for while, 10% of celiacs react to them regardless. Also be sure to avoid eating out and I would suggest only eating at 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurants.

It might be of help to read the newbie 101 section to be sure you covered all the bases, I even update a list of gluten free alternative foods a few times a year here.

Hello everyone, this my first time to this website and I need some help. I’m 65 years old and have been living with Celiacs for about 15 years. My doctor has suggested I start taking a probiotic named  Integrative Pro-Flora-Concentrae. Has anyone else used this probiotic specifically? If this one isn’t celiac friendly can you recommend another please. Thank you.

If a Celiac person is successful in following a gluten-free diet, they can go into remission.   They may not have a reaction to gluten without a precipitating event like an injury or infection or even emotional or mental stress.   Following a strict gluten-free diet at home, then indulging in gluten containing products abroad without a reaction can be explained by this remission.
