girl, guess you will not be in tight jeans tonight! have you tried any gluten free remedies for that? FYI you might want to keep that on hand for date #2 just in case....... Have fun!

I always find that 30 min of cardio helps tremendously - it's not during the actual cardio but about 15 minutes after that you'll experience a...shall we say release?

Boy, I hear you on this one...bloating is the one big symptom I get from accidental glutening, to the point where I can't get my pants done up! I, too, would love any feedback on possible remedies for this--exercise doesn't do it for me; I still look quite pregnant after a post-glutening cardio session.

Guest mvaught

Me too - I look pregnant when i get glutened and when i get i accidently get dairy too (and sometime for reasons i can't figure out - i guess cross-contamination). I used to exercise a lot - but now i have a lot of problems with my joints so it makes it really hard (plus i am hypoglycemic and since it has been a while, now it is hard for me to start back again without my blood sugar going all wacky). any other ideas for bloating. or any ideas for starting an exercise program back up slowly...i feel like such an old woman talking like this, but i'm only 30...but i guess a little underweight! anyway, advice is appreciated.

i have reactive hypoglycemia too, and exercise helps to stabilize the blood sugar, so i'm not sure what is going on with you. have you talked to a doctor about that?

yeah a lot of hypoglycemics do it..it happens when you aren't used to exercising and then start again (the blood sugar drops/ you are more sensitive)..you are right - pushing through it and continuing to exercise on a regular basis eventually helps make it more stable in general.

Michelle, I just noticed that you have an Interstim Implant. I was just curious why. My name is Jerri and I have been lurking for a while because I have been trying to register and it would not let me register for some crazy reason. I was diagnosed with Celiacs before Christmas and have been gluten free for 1 month. I had previously lost 20 lbs., but could not understand why I did not lose any in my stomach. Since going gluten free my stomach is almost flat. I also have a Medtronic Interstim Implant. I have had it for 2 years. At present it is not working properly. I go back to my dr. next month to see if I am going to have to have surgery to get it working again. Having to be gluten free is just no fun at all. I am coping, but if I could go back there are some foods I would love to have.

hey Jerri - that's the same as what i have...Medtronic Interstim. anyway, i have it for interstitial cystitis and just got it in august. is this why you have it too? it seems to work well for me. it definataly is no cure, though, if i eat/drink bad (like orange juice for example is a killer for me) then my bladder acts up. i still have problems with my bladder, but i have probably a 65% or more imporvment (like now I only get up an average of 4 to 10 times or so a night to use the bathroom when i used to get up about 50 to 70 - yes, really). have you tried fiddling with your remote? i keep mine at the same level but an tempted to try to turning it up..when i had the test one -i adjusted it often. of course, the last time i tried to tun it up - ouch (and sometimes even at this level i can feel it - do you do that?). anyway, i hope that your doctor can help you.

so your bloating went away completely after gluten-free? I've been so frustrated because i can't get rid of bloating..well, a lot of times when i wake up in the morning it will be gone, but then as soon as i eat (seems like anything i eat) i bloat up, but don't feel glutened (though sometimes i feel glutened, but i am very careful to eat all gluten-free). i tried stopping dairy and that seemed to help - but noe even goat's milk and soymilk seem to bloat me up. i haven't cut out soy yet because i sooo am in denial about it.

Michelle, I have an the Interstim because I have a Neurogenic Bladder. I have been having to catherize myself for the past 13 years in order to go the the bathroom. It has been a real pain. It took a year and a half and 7 surgeries to get the implant to work. A little over a week before Christmas a woman in an SUV rear ended me and it hasn't worked since then. Needless to say I am really upset especially with that lady. My dr. is at a large university hospital and the earliest appt. that I could get was Mar. 13th. I know that the implant itself is not damaged. I am pretty certain that the lead has been moved and that I will need to have surgery to have it put back in place. I tried playing with the remote, but that did not work. I know what you mean about the ouch thing. Mine has really jolted me at times.

About the bloating thing. I can tell a real difference after removing gluten, wheat and all the other things from my diet. I am alot more fatigued than I was when I started this diet thing, but in some ways I feel better.

Oh that is awful that that lady hit you - that surgery is no fun at all. I am sure you are right about the lead getting out of place - now they have to find it all over again! you'd think there would be a better way than to be awake during it. i just hated hearing that drill -ewwww. I was really lucky to have the implant help me right away for the IC (though like i said it isn't a cure..sounds like what you have is almost the opposite of what i have, you can't go - i go too much.) That lady should have to pay you some sort of emotional damage compensation for having to repeat that surgery (any sugery done awake should have its own compensation program). Oh and you can't get in until march - that is horrible - i'm sorry. well, maybe if you call the dr a bunch to see if there are any cancellations, you can get in earlier (or maybe they will get tired of you calling about cancellations and will just fit you in).

i don't know what to do about the bloating - i am also very fatigued all the time, but i was before i went gluten-free too (when i was on the gluten, i would have sort of attacks were i would uncontrollably fall asleep very suddenly - it was wierd). i just feel afraid to eat anything - then i feel starving and like, well i have to eat something before i pass out. i can't really figure out what i am doing wrong - if it is just that my body needs more time to heal or if i am getting more sensitive to other things as well - dunno.

Anyway, oh best of luck with your interstim - i'll be thinking about you!!

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
