rancid beef sweats during sleep

I'm not 100% sure if it's just beef, but when I eat a wendy's lettuce wrap burger or a steak or something with a lot of beef I'll wake up the next morning drenched in sweat that smells bad enough to knock me out again. I'm curious if this is just poor fat metabolism or a beef intolerance. my stomach and abdomen feel fine, good even.

As an aside, have you inquired about how Wendy's cooks the beef patty for that lettuce wrap burger? Are they cooking it on the same grill that they use for things like breaded chicken patties?

only way it could be a risk is if they lied to my face, in which case THEIR face is the next thing going on that grill LOL.

but no i have history of this happening when i eat plain steak, also used to choke on dry aged steak

Do you get these smelly sweat episodes when eating other beef products? Does this only occur at night? It is odd that you have no GI distress in conjunction with these episodes.

yes but burgers never did it before i cut gluten. it used to happen when i ate steak, i've always had a small person problem of overreating protein thinking it would make me bigger. also the smell seems to bother me more than everyone else, I even had a girlfriend about 7 years back who noted I seemed to have a lot more "energy" when i ate beef. she noted that because later on i had a lot less "energy" because she depleted my "energy" through unreasonable demands.

Does this effect present itself with other meats, eggs, dairy, soy . . . other things high in protein?

There is something called "meat sweats" but it doesn't seem to fit very well with what you describe: https://www.healthline.com/health/meat-sweats#5

yeah the primary problem is how much the sweat stinks. i know when im intolerant to stuff i typically get awoken by diarrhoea at 3 am

is this possibly a symptom of recovery? i only ask because it seems strange how no one has said anything or looked at me funny even though the smell puts me off. does normal metabolism of beef make people stink?

No. Eating beef doesn't make most people stink. But because of individual body chemistry, eating certain things can produce odors that only some people can detect. A classic example is the peculiar odor some people report when urinating after eating asparagus. Only 25% of the population can detect that odor. There's no difference in the urine after eating asparagus from one person to another. The difference is in who can smell it. From what you have shared, it sounds much the same in your situation. You smell it but you say others don't.

Well, my goodness.  DO you really need to eat beef to survive?  Give the cows (and yourself) a break.

meat in general, yes, not 100% sure if its all meats or fatty foods or what causes this. the choking is the only worrysome symptom but thats not happening now and the last time it happened I was just in the hospital for a severe allergic reaction to dust mites, didn't know letting mold grow on steak to give it flavour was common practice, I'm probably allergic to that too.

can't survive on a vegetarian diet though, i've tried replacing my protein intake with nuts and legumes many times, its like my body has an absorption cap and i just start pooping them out.

I'm pretty sure that in stores, you can find plenty of gluten-free options. But they are usually a bit more expensive.

Hello @BunnyBrown and welcome to the forum. I cannot say that I have had the procedure you describe, but recently I did have general surgery and was routinely intubated.  That pain was what troubled me most after the operation, far more than the operation site.  It took a few days to really settle down, I was quite badly bruised. It was taking so long I was a bit concerned so asked the question on another forum. A few patients came back to me and said they had suffered the same.  I imagine in my own case possibly the throat got bashed about a bit,  maybe they had difficult inserting the tube?  I've suffered with a painful throat post-endoscopy too, but never as long as the intubation pain.   I hope you will be feeling better very soon.   PS BTW - love the name!  I saw this today in an Easter display in a shop and your name reminded me of it.🙂

This wonderful, Anne. I think you have a point about why people disappear off forums.  I found the first few years post diagnosis a real struggle and frankly wondered if I would ever feel better (not to dishearten people, but just to say it can take a while longer for some folk to heal).  However, once my antibodies were back within normal range it really has made a big difference to my health.  I've chosen to stick around because I'm a Mod, otherwise I might have been one of those that disappeared, too!
