Gluten Free Cooking Class

Hey Everyone!

I just have to share with you guys something I attended the other night. Our local Giant Food Store, in Camp Hill has just built a brand new store a few months back and added all kinds of new stuff including a big natural food section. They also had a cooking school built in the store. The other evening they offered a Gluten Free cooking class. It was the last of a 3-part series. The first session was about getting to know Celiac and all the different things we have to watch for, the second sessions took everyone on a tour of the store and they learned to read labels, the last session was the cooking class. I only got to attend the last session because I was just informed of the class last minute.

Anyway, they made pizza, apple crumb pie (heaven), and chocolate chip cookies. There were also samples from different vendors, Annie's Rice Mac and Cheese, which I cannot find anywhere near me, Pamela's cookies which I have heard everyone eaving about, granola.

There was alot of information that the local support group put together to help the newly diagnoised (please forgive my spelling its a very cold, windy friday morning and work was the last place I wanted to go when I had to leave my warm and cozy bed this morning :) ).

There was a huge turnout, and it was a nice way to meet other celiacs. I joined the support group along with another celiac friend of mine. I also met another board member from here at the class. I know you guys are not all in my area but I am just so happy that the grocery store recongizies our needs.

This just made me smile, ever since the whole Mcdonalds fry issue came out I too am worried that all those people who are looking for money and are sueing are going to ruin it for the rest of us. I don't want that. Some companies are finally starting to see our need to know and why we call to double check. I don't want that to go away....

So thank you Giant!!!!

Sorry for the rant everyone!

That's awesome. I went to something similiar last weekend. A cake decorating store held a gluten-free baking class in San Diego. We didn't actually bake anything, but they gave out all sorts of info on how to bake gluten-free and I walked away with lots of FREE Kinnickinnick mixes! :D

blueeyedmanda-My mom went to that class also! (I am the Celiac, not her, and she is in Mechanicsburg)

She couldn't stay for all of it but said she thought it was great! She also went to one shortly after it opened-it was a 3 part class, I think. My mom, Linda, sat next to another Linda, who apparently is the president of the local support group and thought she was great. Hopefully you will find some great resources!

Yay for Giant!

Laura-

I sat on the other side of your mom. Funny how that worked out. I turned and asked her how long she has been gluten-free and she told me she was there for you. I give her alot of credit, that's nice she was there to help you. I didn't get to talk much more to her, she had to leave to go to work. She was very nice though.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
