Gluten Mistakes

I am sure that many of you struggle to maintain a gluten free diet. This weekend my husband I ate at a restaurant that we consider safe. We have had many meals there without incident. Unfortunately, this time a recipe was changed and I had a very uncomfortable response.

My doctors haven't really offered any advice on how to treat the symptoms when I accidently ingest glutens. Is there a website that can offer some advise or is there an over the counter medication that helps the bloating, vomiting and diarrhea. I lost over a full day due to my last adventure. I feel exhausted and frustrated. We may not eat out for a while. By the way, I ordered a steak and baked potato-that should be safe enough.

DarcyandMike-

I don't think there really is any "official" treatment for accidental glutenings. Unfortunately, cross-contamination is a BIG risk when eating out. Although the ingredients might be safe, the use of a utensil with gluten on it, or gloves that have gluten on it, is fairly likely. I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I was "glutened" on Thursday.....talked to the chef, explained how microsensitive I am. Still got sick. We have pretty much ruled out eating out because my symptoms are so severe. My only relief is taking Immodium to stop the diarrarhea. I try to rest, and usually take a hot bath. But unfortunately, there is nothing to stop the autoimmune reaction from occurring, hence, the symptoms.

Hope that you are feeling better!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes you just need to get it out of your system. When I feel bloated I take a Zelmorm and that helps with the gas. Alot of times, you just need to let it run it's course. Eating out is alway tricky as well as eating at friends homes. They might know your affliction, but not be necessarily as careful as you would be in your own home.

It can take longer than 6 months for antibodies to drop to the normal range,  My DGP IgA took a few years as I got stricter and stricter about being gluten free  But having symptoms again could also mean you’re getting some gluten in your diet.

Hi, I just had my 6 month check after being diagnosed Celiac 6 months ago.  All of my panel numbers were normal except: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA (It is 31 with high being over 30)  I have also been having symptoms again. Am I not actually being as careful as I think I am or does it take longer than 6 months for this particular test to come back down?  I can't get ahold of my doctor this week as she is out.     Thank you!

That is very strange, because it looks to me like two very different test results, but for the same test! It's definitely time to contact your doctor for clarity on this.

Scott, thank you SO MUCH for this!! She has been through so much in the last three years as we've tried to track down answers. This language will definitely help me help her to reframe.
