Rash Worsened By Elastic?

I’m convinced the rash I’m dealing with off and on is DH. My question is can it be worsened by elastic or friction, heat, etc? It seems the elastic in my no show socks makes it worse as well as my underwear line or places that rub frequently or get hotter like my thighs, around my underwear line and even sometimes around other private areas. I do a lot of sitting with my job. It itches so incredibly bad it makes me crazy and the more I scratch it seems to worsen. It also burns at times. What the heck can I treat it with? I use calamine lotion

I only had it on the back of my thumb, but I recall that when if flared up any tough whatsoever made it worse. Scratching it, which is all I wanted to do, was the worst, as it broke the blisters and made it looks horrible, and it still itched just the same.

Yeah the itch is terrible. It’s like Scratch and scratch to get temporary relief but it makes it worse for sure. My foot looks terrible right now

I never tried it, but have heard that Ben-Gay cream helps.

My dad has reactions to elastics. Elastics are usually made of latex. I think you might have a latex allergy.

DH is pressure sensitive.  I could go to the store and get DH blisters on the palms of my hands from pushing a buggy around.

I've had DH under elastic every where you mentioned plus some.

Try wearing natural fibers (cotton, linen, etc) that wick moisture away from the body.  The heat and friction will be lessened.

I doubt it's a latex allergy.  Most elastic is made from synthetic rubber now.

Niacin (Vitamin B3) has been shown to help DH.

I took just Niacinamide (a form of Niacin) and my DH cleared up within weeks.

Remember, Celiac disease causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals.  Talk to your doctor.

Been there, done that, got an all cotton t-shirt.  😸

I recently had a holter monitor and had a horrible reaction to the sticky electrodes

Oooo, yeah I get that as well. Especially from the plastic medical tape. If I leave it on long enough I break out in hives. Not sure if that is Celiac related though.

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
