Hi everyone! I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and it is my second day of being gluten free. However, my bloating and stomach pain has been alittle more persistent since I have stopped eating gluten. Is this because my body has not adjusted to the change yet? Has anyone else experienced the same thing? If so what should i do for it?

Welcome to the forum, Ck62430!

Well done for embarking on the gluten free diet.

Regarding your symptoms, it is early days yet.  It takes time to heal.

I had bloating for a while.   I had very uncomfortable lower left side bloating and my consultant suggested I was temporarily lactose intolerant, and to try giving up lactose for three weeks to see if it helped - and it did.

Here's an explanation why this happens:

If you aren't consuming dairy products, you might like to keep a food diary to see if there are other foods that are possibly causing your bloating.

You should be feeling better within a few weeks but double down on your efforts to eat gluten free. Read all labels carefully, not just food but supplements and meds as well. Wheat starch is sometimes used as a filler in pills. As Cristiana also mentioned, it is very common for celiacs to have developed other food intolerances because of "leaky gut" syndrome. Dairy is a very common one but soy and eggs are frequently among them. Avoid things that don't intentionally have gluten as an ingredient but whose labels say something like, "manufactured in a facility that also processes wheat. Avoid processed food products that contain malt or malt derivatives. Malt is made from gluten containing grains. Avoid eating out like the plague since you have no control over cross contamination. They may serve you something that is naturally gluten free but has been cooked in the same pot or on the same grill as wheat things. This may be helpful:

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
