Doss Pam Baking Spray Contain Gluten?

Hello! I was diagnosed with Celiac disease on July of last year. Since then I have been trying to avoid contact with any gluten, though there has been a few slipups.

Recently I have been in a baking mood, and use Pam sprays often on my pans. It came to my attention that Pam's baking spray contains flour in it. I'm surprised at my stupidity for not reading the label. I didn't realize this before because I had no reaction to it for the many times I have used it. Have any other celiacs tried it and noticed the same thing? I wondered if the flour in the spray has been processed to the point of containing little to no gluten, or if the amount of flour in the spray is so small that it goes unnoticed by my organs? I have not seen an internist to check my gluten levels yet, I'm just basing this on that I have not gotten sick from using the spray.

Am I under-sensitive or is there actually minimal to no gluten in Pam's baking spray?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It looks like their Pam Original, Pam Olive Oil, Pam Grilling, Pam Avocado Oil, Pam Coconut Oil and Pam Butter don't contain any gluten ingredients:

Thank you for answering! Yes, Pam baking spray does contain wheat, but I was wondering if it contained enough gluten to trigger celiac symptoms. Eating a gluten bread crumb has gotten me sick before. Yet I have used Pam baking spray several times and not gotten a reaction from it.

I don't know the exact amount of gluten you would get from each use, it would be difficult to calculate, but for someone with celiac disease any amount is too much. Over time it could cause low level damage so it would be best for you to give it away and get one of the other varieties that don't contain any gluten.

Thank you! Even though I have not noticed damage I have quit using Pam baking spray and am using other safer cooking sprays. I'm going to pay much better attention to what I cook with from now on.

      I did a test already not exactly sure if it was the right one the doctor I went to at first refused to give me the test but i evantail convinced him but he wasnt exactly sure what test to do. I didn't eat gluten on sunduy monday tuesday and i had the test on thursday. Is it possible the test will still be accuret

      Since you're having a last hurrah with gluten, request another round of blood tests for celiac antibodies.  Make sure you're eating ten grams or more daily for those few weeks before your capsule endoscopy.  You probably weren't eating a sufficient amount of gluten needed to provoke sufficient antibody production.

      Hello all I am taking some time out from work today to make my annual Christmas cake along the lines of a tried and tested English recipe which means a fruit cake, with marzipan  and icing.   As usual, I've left it too late - we're meant to bake these things some time  in advance to improve the flavour.    I never remember.  But it never seems to matter! I thought I'd share it in case any UK coeliacs still haven't made theirs and don't have a recipe, or any of my friends across the Pond want to try making one.  Do you make iced fruit cakes like this in the US for Christmas? - I have no idea!       Welcome to the forum, @Art Maltman! Ask your physician to order serum antibody tests specifically designed to detect celiac disease. That's the place to start but you shouldn't be on a gluten free diet some weeks before the blood draw. You certainly have some symptoms that are characteristic of celiac disease and you have a first degree relative that has celiac disease. So, I think this would be an appropriate request to bring to your physician. Here is an article outlining the various serum antibody tests that can be ordered when checking for celiac disease:   The physician may not be open to ordering a full panel but push for at least these two: total IGA and tTG-IGA. By the way, absence of gut pain is very common in the celiac population. We call them "silent" celiacs as they have no or very minor symptoms. There are over 200 symptoms and spinoff health issues that have become associated with celiac disease and the range of symptoms and effects produced by the disease in different individuals various tremendously.
