So, after losing weight over the last 4 months and having constant diarrhea (15 to 20 bouts a day) I started passing out and my Wife had enough, went to the hospital, they were clueless except to say I appeared to be starving myself, the Biopsy from my intestines told the tale and with a blood test confirmation, I am now a Celiac person.

how do I find local groups, this site has been very helpful but also scary (I have to check my medicines to see what fillers they used are made of?!?) but this is now my life so I want to learn what to do, so any help would be great!

This article may be helpful:

Also, this is a very old list, but some of these groups may still be active...hard to say though due to the pandemic:

You will get better. It takes time, diligence and patience. I was diagnosed almost 9 years ago. Things do get better. Still issues (life is never perfect or easy), but recent second endoscopy showed I am almost 100% healed. Hang in there.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
