Fainting and blackouts

The gastro dr didn't seem overly concerned about her blacking out after eating. I have settled it on a vagus nerve stimulation. She also now blacks out when nervous such as in social situations, getting up infront of crowds or being scared of something which can also be vagus nerve related.  She hasn't done it again because of eating.  I suspect she was so nervous about her stomach swelling and what would happen that it also caused her to black out. However these episodes are either only detected by her...such as her vision is black but eyes open and can hear and follow directions as I try to help her lie down. She levels back out if getting her head down and feet up (blood back to head) although she stays shook up for a while. Or if she fully faints it would last seconds. If she was out for more than 30 seconds I would be calling an ambulance and be demanding further testing from the doctors. I hope you get some answers. Stay safe!

The blacking out sounds a lot like panic attacks, which can be a symptom of celiac disease.

Very possible.  She definitely has other symptoms of panic attacks.  I didn't realize that was a celiac symptom. Very interesting.

Anecdotally, I have a friend who used to black out after eating and the doctor did diagnose vasovagal as well. How does your daughter do at blood draws? Does she pass out then?

She does fine with blood drawing. However,  my son and I, who have been tested for celiac but were cleared both have vasovagal issues.  He does faint and convulse with blood draws unless laying down. I do not. It seems to be different triggers for different people.

Thanks @Beverage for checking in!  I haven't changed the dogs' food yet.  I'm still working through some of the other issues that I need to remedy (transitioning to an anti-inflammatory diet, being sure to get only gluten-free certified items, and buying some new cookware for my kitchen).  Somewhere after that, I have on my list to try out the dogs on a new dog food, but I haven't gotten there yet.  In the meantime, though, I can definitely see that some of my worst days seem to follow when there's a possibility of gluten cross-contamination (I'm still working to cut waaay down on these instances) OR when I eat anything with dairy/ milk protein in it.  So I think I need to really get a better handle on my day-to-day eating habits to reduce all gluten cross-contamination into my food and also any dairy intake, and then at that point, I think I'll start moving over to the dog food thing.

Sounds like fun, and I was in Germany a few years ago so you might find these articles helpful:

I don't think you have the URL/site address correct, as there is nothing at that site.

Hello All I am traveling to Germany in October and will be in Berlin, Rothenburg ODT , Salzburg, Fussen and Munich.  I am also driving the northern part of the romantic road with stops in some of the smaller towns along the way.  I would really appreciate any recommendations for gluten-free friendly places, restaurants and any gluten-free beer gardens.  Thanks in advance, Laura
