Yasmin

Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to find a good birth control pill and would like to take Yasmin. I can't find much info about it because it's relatively new. It's not on any of the gluten-free drug lists. Has anyone ever contacted the company to verify whether it is gluten-free? I can't get through to them. Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,

Just got through to the company and they verified that it IS gluten-free. Yay!

I found a list of the inactive ingredients on this website:

Open Original Shared Link

"YASMIN's Aust R number is 77039. As well as its active ingredients, YASMIN contains lactose monohydrate, maize starch, Povidone, pregelatinized starch, magnesium stearate, Macrogol, hydroxylpropylmethyl cellulose, talc, titanium dioxide, yellow ferric oxide."

I'm not sure if pregelatinized starch is gluten-free. You could contact the company and ask them. Does anyone else know?

I take it and i love it! I was so scared of going on BC last mainly because of the side affects (this was pre diagnosed celiac disease) which where all maily side affects of celiac disease any ways, but i have had no other problems with it.

That was acctually one thing i didnt think to check if it was gluten-free or not.

Hi everyone

I only recently found out I have celiac (Feb 2008). After eliminating all gluten from my diet, I have still noticed that I had some symptoms. Especially recently I have been getting a stomach ache at bedtime (which occurs a while after taking my Yasmin), and usually have loose stools the next morning. I called the company and they were pretty elusive about the inactive ingredients. The lady couldn't tell me whether the modified starch was from a gluten-containing source. She said that the active ingredients are gluten-free, but that they couldn't assure gluten-free status for the ingredients they get from other sources, which seemed to include the modified starch. I have looked up the inactive ingredients for Yasmin, and since it specifies corn starch in another area, I think the modified starch is probably a wheat source. In any case, I plan on getting off Yasmin at the end of the month to see what happens. I found that Yaz is a potentially good substitute and according to this website: Open Original Shared Link it only has corn starch.

Anyway, just thought I'd add my two bits.

I took Yasim for several years without any problems. When I spoke to the company, about 4 years ago, it was gluten free.

I've been on Yasmin for over 4 years...I've called the company, as have my doctors to assume me that it's gluten free. I've never had any problems with it! But hey..if you think it's the source of your pain I totally think you should change it, I've heard Yaz is a great birth control as well.

I had alot of problems with Yasmin, I found it to be the worst birth control I have ever taken actually and this was before I knew I had celiac. I had to come off of it because I was having so many side effects. But that just goes to show how everybody is different, as some people have no problems with it.

I just started taking Yasmin and I found it really bothered me. THe side effects like being really tried, and naseated as well as moody and loss of appitte really affected me. I wentoff it for two days and already I feel better. Not so sleepy.

If its gluten free that doesnt mean wheat free. Modifed Starch is made with corn/wheat ect..and without knowing which..I just dont know...

Hi kuak, gluten-free always means wheat-free but wheat-free doesn't always mean gluten-free. I am pretty sure Yasmin is on the gluten-free drug list. Yasmin can increase your potassium and that can cause some weird symptoms. I think Yasmin is one of those love it or hate it drugs :)

I took Yasmin for years and loved it. I recently went off of it and got an IUD for cost and effectiveness reasons. My Fiance arent' planning no having babies for another 5 years after we get married so that was a safer route for us. Took some time to get use to the IUD, but I love it now.

Again, Yasmin is a love it or hate it pill.

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
