Rachel - - just call SBC and ask what is the best deal they can give you. Tell them your friend gets everthing - caller ID, call waiting caller ID, and one more feature (I think I have call forwarding but don't use it), PLUS DSL, and unlimited long distance.

Thanks Susan....just so happens my mom works for SBC....except I think they just changed to AT&T. I dunno...they keep switching...I cant keep up.

Anyways, I think she needs to get me hooked up. I'll be talking to her about this tonight. ;)

Patti, too true and too funny.

I think this thread is fabulous. It just strikes me that this is exactly what women do when we get together, we talk about everything and we do that because everything is connected to us. This thread has helped me to understand the frustration I have had on another board that seems to be dominated by men. The discussions are specific to the one topic and then they end which lots of times is just right but sometimes you want something that is broader and deeper than just one topic. This thread contains the community of, seems like, women who show up and anyone is welcome to. It is a gracious space, I have felt so at home and so happy to be here even though I kind of crashed in somewhere around page 76.

It is just the best darn pajama party I have been to in ages. :D:D:D

See ya later, off to pick up my sweetie.

I agree. I love this thread and all the "old" and "new" people that pop in. I still call it Rachel's thread though so the slumber party must be at her house. :D:lol: I hope you have air conditioning Rachel...I don't like the heat like you do. :P

So it's become a pajama party, and I can join in??? It's such a long thread, every now and then I check in and see that it has nothing to do wtih eating dairy...... :)

It started out with dairy...but has now become a pajama party because we all like to gab and this is the best (cheapest) way to do it. :P

And yes..join in...the more the merrier. It got quieter when both Patti and Donna were on vacation. :( And then some of us were going through a not to gabby period.

:lol::lol:

Yeah....and for the record I cant eat dairy. It was just some crazy idea I got that didnt last more than a few days at most.

Too bad I cant go back and change the title...to something like "OMG...I may never figure all this out" "but lets all have a slumber party instead". :P

I feel sorry for all those folks that come on looking for the answer to dairy and have all this other stuff and miles of pages to go through. :o

It would be nice to be able to change the title but those of us who know the thread will keep coming back although the newbies that want to learn about dairy may be turned off by all these pages.

We have a little tiny phone company and they offer DSL but the cheapest one is $30. I'll have to check into it. Do you have to have a dedicated line?

Even though the thread kind of went off track a little here and there...hehe...I still can answer questions about dairy. Er...avoiding dairy I should say. :P

Rachel,

I know I don't need to ask you to post tomorrow...but please post after you appointment. We are all waiting to see what this doctor says. :)

Ummm...dedicated line??

Explain?? I'm kind of not up to speed on all the phone stuff.

Of course. :D

Problem is...a month ago I had all these questions in my head and now I kinda forgot it all. I dont know what to ask. :(

Gotta spend some time thinking about the ovary stuff again.

HA..... I'm finally 113 pounds... :) .... probably just water weight gain from that time of the month tho <_<

YAY!!! Congrats Floridian...you're beating me!!

I'm still at 105. Gotta work my way back up...still paying for my sweet potato indulgence.

Too bad the thread can't be organized into chapters LOL. That way there could be an msg chapter, a corn chapter, an ovary chapter etc. etc....then you could always go back and find the info you need. :D

A dedicated line is one just for the computer...I don't know if my mom has dsl or cable but I think she has just the one line. I'll have to ask.

Floridian,

Yea on the weight gain. :):D:P

That would be nice Mango...but then we'd have to jump back and forth within the thread.

Hmmm...true. Okay well then we need a google search bar just for this thread.

ps - I think this slumber party is so popular because all the food is gluten, dairy, corn, soy, msg, and sulfite-free. It must be the secret to throwing an awesome party :)

Rachel, you've got company in the stone age...I'm on dial up too, which is why I post mostly from work, lol.

Floridian - congratulations on that weight gain...I wish I could send you (and Rachel too) the extra weight I gained after going gluten/dairy free.

Rachel--24 Collaborator
Someone needs to prink out the thread and put Named Tabs on each subject... :D

Oh yeah and mail it to everyone...

:lol::lol:

Too funny!

LOL...yeah we're all starving though.

:lol::lol:

At least we don't have too much brain-fog....we're at least able to remember some of the topics we've covered. Just dont know how to find them now. :P

Phew....I'm not alone.

I know I'm the only one here who still writes checks with no ATM card though.

dlp252 Apprentice
Donna you probably look beautiful and healthy... I still look sickly... I hate it... the doctor said I'd start to gain weight but it's not happening as fast I would like it to.

Yah, I'm fortunate in that I didn't have a malabsorbtion problem so never got very thin. I think if I hadn't figured this all out when I did, it wouldn't have been much longer before it became a problem though. I was actually at a really good weight when I started the diet and now have gained about 10 pounds so am a little over what I should be.

Donna and Rachel,

I'm still in the stone ages too...and I only have one line so nobody can call me. Mostly pesky telemarketers anyway. My mom knows to email me if she can't get through. :P

Well, as I recall you actually write checks for cash, so you've got me there, but I really only use the ATM card to get cash from the ATM machines, lol. I write checks for everything else.

You and Rachel can keep each other company. I use my debit card for almost everything. The only time I use a check is the day before payday if we are running low on funds. Ssshhh, don't tell anyone. Oh yeah, can't forget the bills I can't pay online, gotta write checks for those. :P

Ha, I write so many checks that when I put in my last check order the guy called me to tell me that it would be cheaper for me to order 4 boxes at one time rather than doing it in small increments more often, lol.

Oh...I only have one line too but I actually figured out how to get past the not receiving calls part. I got call forwarding so all the calls made to my house go straight to my cell. Now I can be online and still talk on the phone. :D

Okay... question.... should I try a glass of white wine? Haven't had a sip of ANY alcohol in about 4 months.

Hi... my name is Celia

I haven't had a drink in 4 months.

I'm not an alcoholic but was thinking it might be fun.

 My thought, don't do it! But then I don't like wine anyway.

Oh ha! It's GREAT that I only have one week left. In 12 days I'll be living in Australia. Sorry I just keep having to find random ways to announce that as often as I possibly can. :D:D:D

Be sure to keep up with us. Have a great time in Australia. May I ask why you are going? Didn't you say for five months.

 My thought, don't do it! But then I don't like wine anyway.

I don't like wine either and I vote no. BTW, I don't drink at all so I'll always so no. I was always the designated driver in college. :P

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
