Ok, one day I have the big D, the next I am so constipated I have to use an enema. What is the deal here? I am ingesting gluten and I dont know it and I am reacting by constipating? I am so frustrated!

Well, at this point there is no real sure way of telling. Possibilities--yes, you have gotten some gluten or you are reacting with constipation to another food, such as dairy (I do that) or your diet is poor and you need to chock up on fiber. (Don't be offended by that-b/c I have no idea what your diet is like! :) )

My recommendation is to keep a food and symptom journal. That should help you identify an offending food or product and link it to specific symptoms.

are you taking any digestive enzymes and probiotics? if not, you really should.

I am going to try the food diary, and I am sure I probably dont get enough fiber. Can anyone tell me what are probiotics? and digestive enzymes?

Is this constipation something painful? Or do you simply not go? It is normal to not have a bowel movement the day after you have been cleaned out by D. Each persons different but it can take as long as 3 to 4 days for food to travel the whole route. Enemas can be dangerous, they can upset the balance of the intestines and are not good for routine use. Probiotics and or yogurt, as I think someone mentioned are something you should try along with increasing your fiber from fruits and veggies.

You can get probiotics and digestive enzymes at most health food departments or perhaps your pharmacy. The probiotics help to restore the proper balance of good bacteria in your intestines. If you don't like pills look for a live culture Gluten Free Yorgurt. Digestive Enzymes help you to more completely digest your food.

Make certain they are Gluten Free whichever you try.

oh yes, the constipation is painful. It is not that I am merely not going to the bathroom. I end up feeling like I have to go, and nothing, just painful. Then, unfortunatly I have to use the enema. I have tried being a doctors guinea pig once before, so I am rather apprehensive about doc's when it comes to celiacs. They had me on so many vitamins and such, I have a collection. The one thing that worked, maybe this is considered a digestive enzyme was something called Threelac. My ER doctor prescribed it, then took me off it. When I took it I had normal bowels everyday. It has a lot of yeast in it. I dont think so much yeast did me any good either. Should I try taking that again? Threelac is also sold on amazon for anyone who doesnt know what it is and wants to see it. I would appreciate any opinions.

I have major D if I consume alot of gluten. Most of the time I have C. It is VERY annoying. If I eat fiber, I feel gross and major stomach pains. I wake up at night almost every night with pain in my abdomen. I feel like my food is just not digesting right at times. I have this weird feeling at night as if there is something "crawling" in my intestines. I toss and turn almost everynight and just don't sleep well. I am not severely constipated, so I don't feel that is the problem. It is like a low dose of gluten I am getting everyday. I just don't know anymore. For now I am trying to eliminate soy. I am through ever eating out. I seem to get sick everytime, no matter what I eat. I too get nausea sometimes. I am extremely frustrated with my body right now. This has been going on pretty steadily for a year. I don't take laxatives though. I just quit eating or drink coffee and then I will be ok.

HOpe you find the answers, but I think it could be a low dose gluttening. I don't know what else mine could be.

This may sound a little trivial to you, but, I always have a large container of cooked brown rice in the refer. and I add it to every meal that I eat.. To me it works well. I don't know if that will solve your problems. I do remember years ago when I would be bending over in a cold sweat with what I could relate to labor pains in my abdomin and then finallly to pass what was in me. I thought that I would pass out. Dr. said is was severe IBS (I, Be Stumped?)

Honestly, I don't know when my Celiac started, but I do know when the "high" symptoms kicked in....and I can recall the date. Apparently, I was a-symptomatic, with the genetic link for many years.

Everyone if different here and there are many stories and few are the same. So it is a puzzle that we have to put together for ourselves. There is knowledge here, but we also have to do our own reseach for find what fits our need to make us better.

Hope this will be helpful, Lisa

When I get glutened, like clockwork, 'd' the first day or two, then C the next. That's my first symptom to go away, then I get hit with everything else for a week.

Thank you.. Christina My anxiety is through the roof.  I think it was from eggs.  I really don't know because my eyes feel sore. Like I'm allergic to them.  I was defient in B12.   My heart is pounding and it won't stop.  Not sure what to do.   I don't have much support other than this forum.    Colleen

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
