Double Vision

Has anyone heard of a connection between double vision and celiac disease. I have double vision caused by nerve damage to three cranial nerves. My eye specialist recently mentioned a possible connection.

Hello Jean.

I am a 39 year old woman with celiac and a history of thyroid disease. Unfortunately, my celiac was misdiagnosed for 6 years and I now have a great doctor, however, prior to my diagnosis of celiac, I went to the emergency room from work thinking that I was having a stroke or something. I couldn't take the pain in my left arem and my leg would ache and go numb on me. My reg docs wouldn't listen to me so after feeling awlful the whole day in my office I drove myself to the emergency room. They did a ct of my brain and found a large mass on my brain stem. This alrmed the docs and the report was sent to my general doc and he concluded that I had severe calcification which was known as osteoarthritis. Hmmm....well, now that i have celiac, I am rethinking as I have made an appointment to see a neurologist so that I can once and for all put that part to rest. My new doc told me that the pain in my legs and arms is most likely due to celiac. My vision has been blurred lately. It kindof goes on me and then returns to normal which is why I decided to see a neurologist. All of this so many years later. It all makes me sick. It could've been diagnosed so much earlier. Well, I also read that calcium will build up in various sites in the body including parts of the brain. So, in a long answer to you, yes I have heard of it. I will know more in a week or so as I have my appointment then. I would be int. to know more as to what your condition is. My doc at prebyterian hosp here inpgh would like me to give him the inof. that I found in some studies on the internet as he never heard of that kind of calcification and celiac. Take comfort in knowing that there are others like you. I will keep you updated when I go to the doc. I would like to know more about your condition though. Take Care. Natalie

I too have double vision and it feels like a lot of work to keep my eyes focused. All of these vision problems leave me feeling dizzy most of the time. I haven't seen or heard it mentioned as a symptom of celiac, but I understand how you feel. Take care.

HELLO,

I'M new here.

I have double vision too.I have a lot of health problems also. I feel dizzy always.

I see neurologist , eye specialist and gastr.,ENT specialist. But we couldn't solve this problem. My neurologist suspected sixth nerve pulse and my gast. said that it might be deficiency of B-6, B-12 vitamins. Is there any one who knows the treatment of these diplopi and vertigo problems related to celiac disease.I'm doing gluten-free diet for 2 years.I need help!!!!!!

THNKS..

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
