Thank you both for the information. I think I may just plan on attending both meetings since they do not conflict with each other, hey I need all the support I can get right now..... :rolleyes:

Stacie and Ann,

The support meeting at Gwinnett Medical Center is this Sat. March 13th in the Educational department.

As far as I can tell the meeting starts at 10:00. It said if there is a pot luck it will start at 11:00.

But I don't see anywhere that is says pot luck. So I am going at 10:00. I hope you tow can make it.

I know it is a long way but I will try to give you directions. I tried to email the person for Cobb and they never emailed me back.

Take 75 South to 85 north. Then look for 316 toward lawrenceville and take it to the

exit that says Hwy 120. (There will probably be those blue hospital signs too). When you get off the ramp take a left

and you will see the entrance for the hospital (Gwinnett Medical Center) on your right. As soon as you go in the front door

there will be a foyer and I think the education part of the building is to the right. Not to sure but I am sure there will be

someone there to tell us. They do charge you for parking. Hope to see you guys there. Karen :D

I received this email from the GSSG MEETING REMINDER. I do not know if I will make this meeting or not, I may wait until the one in May which I think will be the pot luck. I sent them my mailing address so that they can send me the information, I will let you know.

I am confused about the meetings. The reminder you just sent me was it for the one that is suppose to be at Gwinnett Medical Center or is this a different one but on the smae day? I website said they were held at the Medical Center. Let me know. I will probably go so I will see you at the May meeting. Thanks. Karen

Yes they are usually held at the Gwinnett Medical Center but they have an opportunity to hear Cynthia Kupper, RD, celiac disease speak. The website has not been updated recently but the lady I spoke with assured me they were working on it and in the mean time if you email her and give her your mailing address they will send you the info on the meetings and pot luck. Her email is jmfierjr@aol.com (thanks Kim for posting it)

Did anyone ever get the info on the Cobb meetings?

Hi everyone. Sorry I wasn't on for a while. The Gwinnett meeting is NOT is Gwinnett in March -- just this one time.

The Cobb Meeting will be April 24, and I'll post the information as soon as I have it.

I didn't get to go on Sat. I wasn't sure where it was being held and I don't know that part of town and I didn't want to get lost. So, I may come to the Cobb one in April.

Please send the information to me Kim. Did you go on Sat? IF so, how was it? I have never been to a group. Talk to you all later. Karen

Hi Karen. Sorry you couldn't make it. I was there and it was good. Dr. Rudert is speaking on Thursday March 25 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm in the Richard H. Rich Auditorium in the 77 Building of Piedmont Hospital. The lecture is open to the public and the topic is: The Medical and Nutritional Implications of Celiac Disease.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make that one, but thought I'd pass along the information.

the April 24 meeting of the Cobb Group will be at PF Chang's near Perimeter Mall -- I'll get the time and address later and post when I have it.

A new adult support group was started in Jan of this year. It is held in Cobb Co at a church on Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta. The contact person is Markee Jones at markee@mindspring.com.

On another note, a children's support group is being started. An informal get together is planned at Wills Park in Alpharetta, GA on Sunday, May 23, from 2 - 4. I am very excited about this because I have a 4 y/o son who was diagnosed 12/03. I can't wait for him to meet other kids in the same situation.

Hi My name is Melissa and my daughter, 2 years, is currently undergoing the testing for celiac. I am so confused, know very little and am not sure where to start. Anyone out there have any advice?

      Welcome @JoJo0611. That is a valid question.  Unfortunately the short answer is slim to none.  Be proactive, when the diagnosis process is completed, start GFD.  Remember also that the western diet is deficient in many nutrients that governments require fortification.  Read the side of a breakfast cereal box. Anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests It has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying celiac disease. A list of symptoms linked to Celiac is below.  No one seems to be tracking it, but I suspect that those with elevated ttg, but not diagnosed with Celiac Disease, are diagnosed with celiac disease many years later or just die, misdiagnosed.  Wheat has a very significant role in our economy and society.  And it is addictive.  Anti-tTG antibodies can be elevated without gluten intake in cases of other autoimmune diseases, certain infections, and inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Transient increases have been observed during infections such as Epstein-Barr virus.Some autoimmune disorders including hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease. Then, at 65 they are told you have Ciliac Disease. Milk protein has been connected to elevated levels.   Except for Ireland and New Zealand where almost all dairy cows are grass fed, commercial diaries feed cows TMR Total Mixed Rations which include hay, silage, grains and concentrate, protein supplements, vitamins and minerals, byproducts and feed additives. Up to 80% of their diet is food that cannot be eaten by humans. Byproducts of cotton seeds, citrus pulp, brewer’s grains (wheat and barley, rye, malt, candy waste, bakery waste. The wheat, barley and rye become molecules in the milk protein and can trigger tTg Iga in persons suseptible to Celiac. I can drink Grass fed milk, it tastes better, like the milk the milkman delivered in the 50's.  If I drink commercial or Organic milk at bedtime I wake with indigestion.

      I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures.       I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

      If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.
