I've posted about this before, but it's been a while and we have lots of new people. I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with their kidneys, specifically Nephrotic Syndrome or Minimal Change Disease. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with MCD and discovered that gluten-free made a huge difference and I have been in remission for almost 2-1/2 years. I believe that going totally gluten-free is what's kept me in remission. I also think I might be the only person who has discovered this. My (former) doctor didn't want to hear about it and wouldn't even consider the possibility.

I have had three episodes of kidney stones, but that's all......

I had chronic bladder infections in my early twenties. Now 41, I have chronic health issues but recently the doctor put me on turmeric for several reasons. After one week, my overall bloodwork from my CBC(complete blood count) came down. I think that the turmeric may help your kidneys because of its overall benefit to other bodily functions. Its an anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, lowers cholesterol etc. Perhaps with the guidance of your doctor, it is worth consideration. I hope that helps!

I am 29 and I have 9 kidney stones. I have only passed one so far. My mother also has celiac and has kidney stones. She has something wrong with her kidneys that makes her more prone to stones, but I don't remember what it was called. I never did any more tests because they didn't seem to be able to do anything for it, so I don't know why I have all these stones. I just hope they stay right where they are since they aren't bothering me.

I was diagnosed with Membraneous Glomerulopathy which is similar to MCD (except harder to treat) at the same time I was diagnosed with Celaic. I have been gluten free for about 6 months and have had two meetings with a kidney specialist since, and so far there has been no change in my disease. My kidney doctor says that there is no known connection, but I can't help but wonder.

I have had a kidney stone and have a kidney cyst that they are watching. I am wondering what will happen with the cyst now that I am gluten-free. I'm hoping it is gluten related and will clear up or at least not get worse.

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

      Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

      It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
