Sometimes water can be really harsh on my stomach in the morning too, Lister, and I drink lots of it throughout the day. I find that what works best for me to sort of wake my stomach up is a little bit of juice and then a cup of tea. I use a bit of honey and milk in the tea most of the time, depending on what kind of tea I'm having. After that, I'm good to go whether I'm having breakfast right away or more likely, brunch a little later on.

Hope that helps. You wouldn't think water could hurt your stomach!

strong black coffee for first thing to wake me up, does the trick and doesnt make me feel full like water often does. i too dont eat b/fast as i train first thing so would make me sick so tend to have a big bruch by 12 noon but i do have a good supper about 10pm. juice is allways a good idea as its full of natural sugers to wake you up and give you that buzz in the morn with lots of energy. i drink water through the day but that can often make me feel sick and bloated.

I cut out the rice because it was affecting my stomach at the time ... not necessarily dermatitis herpetiformis. It was Tilda Basmati Rice, sometimes wholegrain rice. I was willing to do whatever it took to heal. Too much fiber also disagrees with me as I have UC.

But you didn't answer my question. When you consume gluten, is there an identifiable reaction within a short period of time, say a few hours?

You can still have celiac disease with negative blood test results, although it's not very common:  Clinical and genetic profile of patients with seronegative coeliac disease: the natural history and response to gluten-free diet: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5606118/  Seronegative Celiac Disease - A Challenging Case: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9441776/  Enteropathies with villous atrophy but negative coeliac serology in adults: current issues: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34764141/

I am only wondering why you would need to cut out rice? I've never heard of rice being any issue in those with DH.

My mother has celiac disease and was diagnosed with Afib around 8 months ago. She's 81 and around 2 months ago had ablation therapy done, which is a very common procedure to treat this, and has been out of Afib 95% of the time since then. Apparently the full effects of this treatment don't kick in for 90 days, so the doctors expect her recovery to possibly reach 100%. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.
