Ok...I just called on the last set of blood work done...since no one seemed it necessary to call us...and found out that all they did was a CBC and a LFT.....I am SO aggravated at myself for not making sure that we were going to do the serology to check things out.....maybe this is normal and I am still so new to this that I do not know what goes on at these follow-ups.

Any insight from any ony out there....Am I mistaken or should we have done more than the "normal" bloodwork? I just hate to think of taking Cooper back in for another draw but will totally call our PCP if is is needed.

They should have done a Celiac Panel. This actually happened to me when I tried to get myself test. What kind of doctor ran the test, was it a GI? If it was, you would think they would know how to test for Celiac.

This was a follow up with his GI...well one of the drs in the office(ours is on sick leave) He has already been diagnosed at the end Dec. '05. I just thought that if we know he has celiac...then that should have been what we were checking on....I mean if a CBC and a LFT didn't show anything BEFORE he was diagnosed...why are we looking at that as a marker for how he is doing on the diet??

Am I wrong??

Makes me wonder if anone else in that office knows what is going on??

Unfortunately, many....and by many, I mean most.....GIs and GPs are not educated about Celiac. Good for you for following up---and yes, you want the FULL celiac panel run. I'm sorry he'll have to have blood drawn again. :(

Thanks so much for your insight! We still feel so new to all this and this being our first follow up...I just assumed (duh on our part) that the doc knew what he was doing!! I will sure be glad when our GI gets back...

Thanks again for taking the time to help us!!

Just a thought to also perhaps consider testing with Enterolab (www.enterolab.com). They specialize in gluten-intolerance testing and I hear it can be more sensitive than blood testing. Just a note!

Isn't it sad when we as parents know more about our kids disease than the doctors that are not only diagnosing them but overseeing their recovery?

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
