Hidden Gluten

I am new to this, as some of you may know by now. Okay here it goes,

1. maltodextrin said to be okay if made in the us

2. carmel color said to be okay if made in the us

3. modified food starch no unless specified corn

4. Natural flavors and things like this get me on the phone, and even so I make sure its not made on the same equipment as gluten products...

Is any of this accurate because this is what I am going by....Please feel free to correct anything....

To the best of my knowledge, those are all good.

And, to the best of my knowledge, you can consider yourself one pretty savy celiac for knowing all those as well. :)

Yep...looks pretty good. Modified Food Starch is good most of the time but if not specified you need to call.

Isn't modified food starch is sometimes tapioca too?

I believe it can be..but that would be fine for celiacs...it will be safe 9 out of 10 times but if it doesn't say modified dorn starch or specific like that and just says modified food starch then you need to call the manufacturer

i'm sorry, i dont remember the product, but i had something that said modified food starch (that's all), and in the french ingredients it say maize/riz (corn, rice). I am allergic to rice, so I called, and they said they use a mix. so it was rice based, too. still safe for most, but i wanted to add that in.

See....I thought that Maltodextrin is fine all the time. That DEXTRIN is said to be ok if made in the us - they are two different things. Anyone aware of this or am I just totally confused?

:huh: OK, question. Is it true that Kraft and Unilever and a few other manufacturers will label allergens? So does this mean that the "modified food starch" on their labels will definitely state if it is wheat? If it doesn't say does that mean it's corn? This can be sooo confusing <_< . Just when I think I'm getting a handle on it I get glutened!! :o

If the food starch is wheat, it has to be listed by law under the new allergy labelling legislation. Beware of old labels, though. If the label says modified food starch and it's a trusted company like Kraft or Unilever, it's always corn unless otherwise stated.

Thanks for the info! ;) Do you know if Hidden Valley Ranch dressing or dip mix is gluten-free. I read the label and don't see anything incriminating but I read on another post that it's not gluten-free.

      This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers.       Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
