I've to Lake Placid before, but never gluten-free. Does anybody know of any gluten-free eateries up there? I'll be there for a week, so I'd rather not live out of my suitcase/lunch box. Thanks in advance.

there arent any gluten free restaurants, to my knowledge, however, there is a good Steak & Seafood restaurant right in downtown lake placid that I have been able to find things to eat, and they have been very accommodating in the past. Unfortunately, we have to stay away from their micro brew!. Its a very busy restaurant, so like anyplace else, stay away from peak times, etc.

Also, a little out of lake placid, toward saranac lake is a Char-Pit BBQ. I haven't been there since becoming gluten-free, but I would imagine that would be ok for us.

Thanks, I doubted there was a gluten-free restaurant :( . I Have been to the Adirondack Steak & Seafood restaurant before on a prior trip (pre-Dx) the food was great and the beer too. I still have the beer glass in my cupboard!

I loved the Adirondacks, I wish I were a little bit closer (and in prime hiking shape :P )

Not REALLY far (about an hour), but far enough that the people I'm going with won't want to join me :(

That's such a beautiful area--I wonder if the Mirror Lake Inn is still there? My husband and I used to like to eat dinner there.

It looks like it's doing just fine...

Ok, so I leave on Sunday 11/5 and I'm still not sure of where I will be eating. :( I HATE out of town conferences

Does anybody have any ideas? I've tried contacting the celiac disease support group in Plattsburgh (about an hr away). I haven't heard back yet. I have a feeling I'll need to roll the dice when I get up there. If anybody has any ideas PLEASE let me know.

Thanks! :)

I think i may have found a place to eat. I received this response from the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid. We'll see how it turns out

"Thank you for your email. Our Executive Chef Sorgule and his entire kitchen staff are very informed and knowledgeable about all allergies especially gluten. I do not see that you have made a dinner reservation with us at the time during your visit. When you do make a reservation and when you arrive for dinner, we will be happy to speak with you and arrange a special meal for you.

Thank you and we look forward to you dining with us.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate contacting us!"

Just a follow-up in case anybody else has the opportunity to visit this wonderful village...

I dined at the Mirror Lake Inn on two seperate occasions with no difficulties at all. I had called ahead and alerted them of my special diet (and made an early reservation). The server on both evenings was a wonderful young woman named Nicola - who, it turns out, has a son with a terrible dairy allergy, so she was very understanding (and got a nice fat tip!). The food was delicious, it is an upscale restaurant - as an appetizer the chef sent out (and i kid you not in the least) a plate the size of a saucer with a half a strawberry drizzled with chocolate, and a cucumber chunk (about the size of my thumb) drizzled in balsamic  It was delicious, but weird - i actually felt the need to cut each of them lest i look like a Neanderthal!

I also at eat a place called the Charcoal Pit. I was expecting a real red-neck BBQ place with all sorts of ribs and such. The place is actually owned by a Greek family, and has more of a Greek menu. They do have some BBQ but it is by no means spectacular. I had a steak and potato. The waitress and kitchen were very accomodating and asked a bunch of questions to make sure what came out of the kitchen was safe.

The conference was an entirely different story. On my registration they (hosted at the Crowne Plaza) inquired about any special dietary requirements, but had absolutely nothing inplace to accomodate. They did have vegetarian meals available, but nothing for gluten haters.

I was wondering how you made out on your trip, Richard. I'm glad you were able to eat safely and well at the Inn. Strawberries and cucumber--interesting :P

No, half of a strawberry, and very little cuke!:o:o:P

And the silverware was extra large also...try cutting half a strawberry in half with a butter knife the size of spatula

I'm glad to be home. Learned much, but this diet business is just too much work on the road <_<

My parents have a house they rent out in Jay Ny near Lake Placid. There is 360 degree views of the mountains, including White Face. They rent it out cheap any time of year. If anyone is interested PM me and I will get you the info.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
