What does he have to say about it? I imagine he's none too pleased at the prospect of losing you.

Y'all know about the new baby adoption....found under the cabbage leaves hosta plants. We have been struggling with the name. Not so easy when you need to hash it out between 2 people. Proud papa is just as picky as me as far as names go! I'm leaning toward Merry Pippin (play on Mary Poppins... and because she is merry.....and because she's such a Pip!!), but looks like it may be Sunny. We rejected names like Ginger, Lulu, Sasha, Sarah, Alice, (where did he get that from?), Happy, Joy and so many others. Any suggestions would be welcome. We are so in love with this baby! I tell her so often that she must be gentle....she probably thinks her name is Gentle!

Pond denizens are all fat and happy. Have learned that the water skimmers (bugs that "walk" on the water) are dangerous to fish as they inject a toxin in them. I watched them attack a moth that landed on the water and couldn't fly out (wet wings). Fascinating. I've been busily scooping them out and flinging them out into the yard, hoping that they die a quick but painful death. Amazing how fast they multiply...this could be a new hobby for me (oh, how exciting!).

Em-n-Emmmmmm.....I'm sure you're going to have a great (if exhausting ) time with your friend! Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Have a wonderful day everyone......only good things allowed to happen today.

I stole acquired an adult cat one time. I asked her what her name was and started offering up possibilities. When she rubbed against my leg and purred, I figured that must be her name. Never did find out how she came to be named "Spider", but who I am I to question her?

T--watch her and see what she seems to want to respond to. We actually changed Allo's name early on since he seemed to like it better than his "given" name. Of course, it could have been my tone of voice......but I prefer to remember it that way

I do like "Sunny", though. Seems very suitable for a wee kitty that was found under a leaf. Your kitty looks practically identical to me son's newest--and they named him "Philip" :P

So go figgure.....

Oh, I wish. . . . .....not great things today, I am afraid. :( Overnight my dad has fallen worse - -they are suspecting that he may have had a small stroke. When I saw him today he was sleeping the whole time, and has apparently been doing so since they tried to rouse him early this morning. So, they are calling with updates.... . . . . ..

Tareeeesuh, why don't you name your li'l wee one Leslie? :huh:B) 'Tis my dad's name. I actually am kidding, but when I was reading your attempts at finding a name, I of course kept thinking of him, and suddenly remembered that his name is good for male or female creatures. .. .....

Sunny is lovely.

Oh Em. I hope your Dad sleeps peacefully through his recovery and wakes up with all the joy, and none of the pain he started this hospital venture with.

Man, we have to meet. Just reading Rayechull's fab, uplifting post, and thinking about how you guys have become such close friends, I suddenly feel a surge of urgency, of a real want like never before to congregate with you all, somewhere, somehow. A lot of this is coming from my sadness re. Dad, but nonetheless I've realized how you have all become a real part of my life. . . . .....incredible. You were the first people, after my immediate family, whom I went to and spilled about my dad.

Thanks for being here, you hilarious, wonderful lot.:wub:

Jyess, you need to tell yer boss to p!ss off.

Sorry, I'm just takin' no prisoners right now. . . .. . . .

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.

Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.

There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.

I have always eaten gluten and never stopped until my recent episode. I started more wheat products as my Dr. requested for the Tissue Transglutaminase Iga Antibody. mye result Value <1.0 Value interpretation: <15.0 Antibody not detected > or =15.0 Antibody detected I do not understand any of it. After eating all that wheat product my body exploded with all sorts of symptoms. I stop gluten ASAP. I am still in the healing process. I started having issues after my surgery.
    • trents
Welcome to the celic.com community @Ello! You say you had a blood test for celiac disease after eating gluten for 2 weeks. Were you gluten free before that? Had you ever been officially diagnosed with celiac disease previously? You say the result of the blood test was 1.5. Can you provide the name of the test and the reference range for negative vs. positive for the test? I ask because different labs used different reference ranges so scores without a reference range aren't very helpful.
