Red Robin Questions

Okay...so the other day i'm off to a home visit to meet with one of my precious autistic kids and I nearly wreck my XTurtle b/c out of the corner of my eye I see a Red Robin going up.... :o It's going up out there at Sandhills.

For those of you who have Red Robin knowledge PLEASE fill us in...do they actually have a gluten-free menu or have you just had good experiences with the wait staff/manager cooking you something safe??

And the fries...we cannot forget the fries... ;) I thought I read somewhere that they cook them in their own dedicate fryer??

I realize that once the place is open we'll have to go talk to the manager (Courtney i'm recruiting you, HAHA) and ask more specifics to assure safe dining, but I'd love any feedback that you guys have about Red Robin. Thanks!!!

Ate there recently and beforehand I consulted with the head kitchen guy and he confirmed that they do have dedicated fryers for fries. They serve them as appetizers, they have a bottomless fry situation there, and they are good. I ordered a cheeseburger withouth the bun and would go back again. My mom, who is 88 and eats gluten-free ordered a shake and ate fries and we both were fine afterward. If you ever are anywhere that there is a Noodles and Company, you should go there. They have rice nodles to which you can add grilled chicken and veggies, that is one of my favorite places. Barbara

We have 3 Red Robin's within 15 minute drive. All have dedicated fryers for the fries and all offer a lettuce wrapped burger (or any other sandwich-actually had a BLT that way there and it was quite excellent). Obviously, check and see, but I believe that because of the bottomless fries that they serve, they all have dedicated fryers. YEAH!!

ALWAYS ALWAYS CK...MINE IN EXTON DOES NOT HAVE DEDICATED FRIER BUT MANAGER DAVE COOKS MINE ALONE IN A POT WITH OIL HE BOUGHT FOR ME.

AS I UNDERSTAND IT..THE OIL THEY USE HAS SOY AND I CAN'T HAVE SOY.

IT'S A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL CHAIN...BUT NOT ALL CHAINS ARE GOOD.

Red Robin is awesome! I work at one, and so I get to see exactly what goes on in the kitchen. They are very knowledgable about cc issues and will prepare everything using clean grills and deticated fryers (I made sure to educate them!). They will prepare your burger away from the buns, etc.

I eat there all the time, and I always get the Vegetarian Red's Rice Bowl without the fried noodles and with the sauce on the side (sauce is not gluten-free). I have never had any issues.

The boys always get a patty with lettuce and mustard, a salad (they bring their own Annie's dressing), and a bowl of rice. They love it!

I'm so glad to hear all these good things about Red Robin!

I wish all the Red Robin restaurants were like the ones where you live. My hubby and I went to Red Robin for lunch today in Madison Heights, Michigan. When I requested a gluten free menu, the waitress couldn't even pronounce it and I asked for the manager. He, like the waitress, didn't have a clue. He said no they did not have a gluten free menu. He said only one of their buns was a wheat bun and the rest of them were just "regular bread". He obviously didn't know that bread is made out of wheat! After I explained that wheat is in all regular bread, he then suggested that they have a lettuce wrap I could order. I was too scared to stay after that encounter with ignorance. We left and went to Outback Steakhouse, where I was given a gluten-free menu and during the meal the manager came to our table to be sure everything was to our satisfaction.

Oh well, maybe some day our local Red Robin will have staff who have a little training about dietary requirements.

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
