Pelvic Inflamatory Disease And Doxycycline

After spending 9 fun filled hours in the ER yesterday, they sent me home with a diagnosis of Pelvic Inflmatory Disease. I have moderate (but fairly tolerable) pain/cramping in my left lower quadrant on my tummy, and vaginal cramping - almost like starting a horrible period, but I'm not. During the several pelvic exams, things were... well... very tender down there. No fever. And for once in my life no D as a symptom!!

They gave me a whopping dose of antibiotic last night and a shot in the butt :o ouch. Now I'm taking doxycycline.

Any experience with either you can share?

I took Doxycycline for 21 days. It's strong stuff, and afterward I battled what I thought was candida, but ended up being gluten intolerance, or maybe both. Take lots of probiotics during and after!! I hope it works for you!

hi

i just fininshed doxycyline for bronchitis. i react easily to antibiotics (nausea etc) but i did well with it. i did continue my probiotic though. are they sure it is PID, because i have been in ER's before for similar symptoms, i have a history of cervical issues. they will often "over treat" and "over diagnose" PID in ER's because it can cause infertility if left untreated. they shoudl have done swabs for things that can cause PID. that was my experience which was horrible, they kept saying oh you must have an std, but the swabs always came back negative. my dr thinks i had cervicitis a few time. if you have any personal questions about it, feel free to pm me. i hope you feel better!!!

Thanks for the advice! Yes, they did swabs and all sorts of other tests. I also react to antibiotics, and I've never tried this one so I hope I can stick with it. Lots of probiatics for me!!

My husband took it for 3 weeks recently for Lyme--he had no side effects at all.

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
