So my liver enzymes weren't going down, the gi did more bloodwork, and a liver ultrasound. Well aparently now my bloodwork is showing signs of possible autoimmune hepatitis, which can only be posatively diagnosed through a liver biopsy. If I don't rule that out due to what the bloodwork shows, it could continue to get progressively worse, even ending in liver failure. So I'm having the stupid test done. Holly **** one day you are fine and the next your just sick what the heck is going on with my friggin body!

Hi Julie

So sorry to hear of your issues, frustrating isn't it. I know I need to have a bunch of testing done, as I just feel like crap all the time. I really want to have some adrenal testing done, but my doctor doesn't seem to feel there is a need. Darn doctors sometimes....I mean all they have to do is write out the darn test..nothing to them.

Does your doctor think your liver problems are caused by the Celiac Disease, just curious?????

Tell me what is going on with you health wise, how and what your feeling that brought on the need for the bloodwork? I've been away from the forum for many months and just back on and trying to catch up.

Try to keep a positive attitude my girl, things may not be as bad as you think/or have been told.

Hang in,

Deb

Julie, I am so sorry to hear this. Celiac autoimmune reactions can attack any area of the body. It chose to attack my twins liver. For him this was found too late so I am glad that your doctor is staying on top of this. Until you know what is causing this be sure you avoid alcohol in all forms and any meds that are metabolized by the liver like Tylenol. And be sure not to use any type of liver or other internal cleansing product without talking to you doctor first. The biopsy is not a difficult procedure and I hope it gives you some answers. ((((((((hugs)))))))

Thanks for the advice. :D Since the celiac diagnosis I have pretty much quit drinking. I'm not taking a single thing until I find out if I have liver problems, even though I get some pretty nasty stress headaches somedays. Yet another biopsy though jeez, I'm beggining to feel like the disected frog in junior high.

I just noticed you have not been diagnosed for very long. It can take a while for the liver to get back on track. I am glad your doc is checking this out but the elevation may come down after you have been gluten-free for a bit longer. Headaches can be associated with gluten CC so if you notice a lot of them double check everything you come in contact with. I hope everything turns out well, for now try not worry. There have been a few other threads on elevated liver enzymes so you might want to do a search and check those out.

Thats just it. The bloodwork showed signs of autoimmune hepatitis, or it could be the celiac. So just to be sure I think I should get the tests done, because I used to be a heavy drinker/partier...it worries me.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
