Prescription Iron?

A friend told me that there are prescription iron supplements made specifically for women that are better than regular OTC iron pills. Has anyone heard of this? What type of iron does everyone take?

Right now I'm taking generic (gluten-free) ferrous sulfate.

I actually had a doctor give me a prescription for iron before. When I handed it to the pharmacist he walked me over to the aisle of supplements and pulled a regular OTC iron supplement off the shelf.

I think this is the same thing as when a doc gives a prescription for Ibuprofen 800mg - same as taking 4 regular ones according to the pharmacist.

I am not a medical professional - just sharing my personal experience.

Hm, I know there is one, and it is an "easy Iron" that is meant to be easier on the stomach, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is called, but it is pretty much like the OTC stuff, maybe just a little better on your stomach (or stronger doses if you need it REALLY badly).

I think it is Ferro Sequel (sp?) It is time-released and I think you can get it OTC....but I could be wrong.
