Always Read Labels (twice Or Thrice)

What happened to me tonight just goes to show that you CANNOT be too careful. Came home really tired and hungry and started to make spanish rice and taco meat. Grabbed the package of "corn" tortillas from the fridge and melted some cheese on them. Just about to start piling the stuff on when my husband says, "Those are NOT corn tortillas, they're flour." I said "No way" as I had bought them at Ttrader Joe's and was CONVINCED that I had read the labels. They were even the same size as the corn tortillas.

He made me get the package out of the fridge and look at it. The "flour" in flour tortillas was covered by the price label. I had just quickly picked them up and assumed they were corn.

GOOD wake up call to always read labels (and listen to your hubby because sometimes they actually Are right :P !). Public thanks to my DH.

Trust me I know! My hubby & I went to the beach overnight (for our anniversary) and got glutened from the sausage we brought w us (we brought all our own food)! The sausage was gluten-free last week, I was grocery shopping w my neice (and I was distracted) and so I didn't re-read the package. DOH!!!

I'm glad u avoided it!

Always read the packages!

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
