Hi all,

New to the message board and am looking for some help/ info on orlando. I am visiting with my 4 year old celiac son and will be staying in Davenport close to Disney.

I have read lots of the other postings which give some great info, I am particularly interested in eating out with my son who has a passion for fries !

I understand the risks with MD and BK but are there any safe fast food outlets ?

What are the latest thoughts on Denny's ? The fries are listed as wheat free has anybody got any experiances good or bad ?

What about supermarket shopping ? I did hear that Publix is better than Walmart is this true ? What is the food labelling like in the US is it accurate ?

I am leaving for my vacation on Friday morning from the UK so any info before then would be great.

I actually liked Walmart for food shopping more so than Publix. We were in Kissimee though. I dont know if all Publix are the same. If you are going to be eating in Disney, or any of the restaurants on Disney property, you can get something gluten free anywhere you go. All the fries in Disney, even in the fast places are gluten free and cooked totally seperate from other foods. As always, I would always check with the manager. I found out the hard way that the register people dont always know what you are talking about, just ask to speak to the manager, they are all knowledgeable about all kinds of allergies.

I hope this helps some.. outside the Disney restaurants, the usuals are always a good choice, Outback, Carrabbas and Chilis.

Thanks very much for your reply, I am a little concerned with the fast food stalls ( MacDonalds) since they surely use the same additive in their friers ? Are they safe for my son ? I am looking fwd very much to Disney I ave heard so many great things, fries would make my sons day.

I found out that the popcorn and the ice cream served in Disneyworld is gluten free. There is also a place in MGM that has gluten free pizza. Type in gluten free dining on the web and you will find some good info.

I personally didnt go for the McDonalds fries.. they have been in such a controversy I just wont take the chance, especially in Disney. That would be a lousy place to be sick.. and Disneys fries are really good!

We vacationed in Orlando in April and stayed in a rental home with a kitchen off Rt. 27. The nearby Publix was great: they had a section just inside the doors with gluten-free and other special diet foods.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
