is wheatgrass safe or no? i am looking at it in a shampoo. i am having a terrible rash in my head and around my hairline which i think is caused by my current shampoo and conditioner with wheat in both...the product so far looks safe other than the wheatgrass?

just think like buckwheat isn't wheat, and wheat is a grain not a grass right? --I am thoroughly confusing myself.... java script:emoticon('', 'smid_7')

from what I've read, wheatgrass is considered gluten-free, BUT it is still part of the wheat plant, even though it doesn't have the evil protein gluten, it may still affect you badly. You may also be allergic to wheat in general aside from a gluten problem.

buckwheat is not wheat at all, it's not even a grain, it's a berry (part of the rhubarb family)

yes it can all be confusing. some people who are gluten-free tolerate wheatgrass just fine, me, I won't risk it at all because my reactions to miniscule amounts of gluten are so severe I don't want to take a chance that the wheatgrass was contaminated with the part of the grain with the protein gluten in it.

well with this nasty rash in my hair thats creeping down my forehead I don't think i'll risk it either. I think on the one hand it has to be the wheat in the shampoo and conditioner. i also have the rash down my back a bit but not as bad- but then on the other; why is it bothering me now? Never ever had this rash before going gluten free now all of a sudden it bothers me? weird.

thanks for the fast response...

I wouldn't trust that none of the wheatgrass hadn't gone to seed! I know I react to wheat grass and barley grass.

Accidentally reported.

Question from eileen.e.wells

I also have a question about grasses...

I want to start taking a "greens" product called Vitamineral Green.

It's a powder you add to juice or smoothies. However, it has "whole leaf barley grass" and "whole leaf wheat grass." Also something called "barley grass juice."

Any insight? Could I just see how it makes me feel?

My sister is celiac and a dietician. She discussed wheat grass with a supplier and he could not give her a definite answer--she says to avoid it at all costs because the jury is still out on this one.

I’m in a flare up with rib pain. I read where others have experienced this after exposure to gluten.  Has anyone found something that eases the pain.

Scott Adams/Trents - Thanks!  I will definitely do some more research.  I welcome any and all advice.

Yes, I've read that online but I was just surprised that no one has mentioned it on this forum specifically.  We have not had our follow up meeting with the Dr where I'm sure she will advise as to how he needs to deal with this ailment.  I have learned from past health issues - if you want to find the REAL truth - talk to someone living with the disease.  THEY will know way more than any doctor ever could.    Thanks for responding.

While lymphocytic colitis (LC) isn’t as frequently discussed as other celiac-related conditions, research does show a connection between the two, likely due to shared autoimmune mechanisms. Some people with celiac do develop microscopic colitis (including lymphocytic or collagenous types), so your husband isn’t alone in this. The finding of dysplasia adds another layer of complexity, but the good news is that chromoendoscopy is a highly effective tool for detecting and monitoring precancerous changes—early intervention makes a big difference. Since his celiac went undiagnosed for so long, it’s possible the prolonged inflammation contributed to these issues, which is why strict gluten-free adherence and follow-up care are crucial now. For managing LC, some find relief with anti-inflammatory medications (like budesonide) or dietary adjustments (low-fat, low-fiber, or dairy-free trials), but his gastroenterologist can tailor a plan. You might also seek out online support groups for microscopic colitis—they often share practical tips.

@CeliacPI, I know this does not directly address your question but it is well-known that in the celiac population, intestinal diseases in general are statistically more common than they are in the general population - IBS, colitis, lymphoma, etc.
