I've been gluten-free for nearly five months now. Except for just the other day I had a DING! moment and realized I haven't ever actually been gluten-free. <_<

I'm a bartender and especially when it gets busy, there is beer flying all over the place. Spilling on my hands when I pour from the taps, and spraying on my hands when I open bottles...combine that with my newest favorite snacky treat, pumpkin seeds, and it's no wonder I've been feeling so crappy!

It's funny becasue the same month that I decided to try the gluten-free diet, I was also taking a food safety course which is when I realized just how disgusting people are. So I became very aware of what I was doing while in the kitchen and where my hands had been, etc...Unfortunately my brain-fogged mind just happened to miss the other connection.

-- So to all the newbies out there, this is exactly the sort of thing people are talking about when referring to 'the learning curve.' --

So, I suppose that now I will begin some sort of OCD hand-washing campaign. As if my hands aren't dry enough already!

Can you wear surgical gloves at work?

Can you wear surgical gloves at work?

Nah, then I'd really look crazy! :P I am constantly spilling beer all over my hands and forearms. So I just either need to pick a time to sit and eat dinner while I'm there, or becoming overbearingly consciencious (sp?!) about the last time I've washed my hands.

At least that gives me a reason for why I've been feeling kinda bleh.

I feel for you. I always thought that if I had to make extra money I could wait tables or bartend like I did in college. It would be so much harder to do now for several reasons.

At least you figured out what was going on!

Were the pumpkin seeds bad because you were eating them with contaminated hands or for another reason? I like pumpkin seeds...please don't tell me now that I can't eat those too.

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.
