My Symptoms

hello, im under my husbands name, He had told me he was doing research here for his high IgG levels and i have been looking around for a few days.

I have had many odd symptoms in the last few years. I would just think they were part of having 4 kids in 5 years. But the more i think about them, i kinda think it could be celiac.

Here are my symptoms

!-constipated for days then all of sudden have bouts of D

2- a rash on my face and on my arms were they bend

3- stomach hurts all the time after i eat

4-im tired all of the time

5. a few months ago I did the 6week body makeover and i felt the best i had for yrs, my rash was clearing up and i would get up and use the bathroom every morning. Of course after a few weeks i gave up the diet, and began to feel terrible again.

6. i wake up congested but feel better as the day goes on.

7. i get headaches quit often

8. sometimes my husband is talking ot me and im miles away.

9- i have some very odd and vibrant dreams when i sleep

10- about 2-4 times a month i get up like at 2 am and i cant go back to sleep

I know there is more, but those are the most prominent ones i can think of right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, on if this could be celiac or other food intolerances.

im kinda leaning towards gluten and milk intolerance from what i have been reading here and on the internet.

What was different about the body makeover diet? I think part of the answer may lie there. Will you elaborate on the diet?

The waking at 2AM and not being able to go back to sleep can be from tired adrenals, which can be caused by chronic illness (including celiac). It might help if you ate something right before bed, be sure it includes protein. Sometimes I eat prunes and brie before bed, others I eat leftover, or a piece of gluten-free toast with almond butter. It also helps train your adrenals if you go to bed by 10PM.

The six week body makeover was mostly meat and potatoes

for breaky i would have oatmeal and egg white and fruit

then snack was steak or chicken wiht plain baked potato

lunch was beans, rice, steak or chicken and veggies

mid snack was potato and meat

dinner was a meat, potatoe or rice and veggies

then snack before bed was fruit

and i never had insomia when i had that snack before bed. I would just think my body was use to being up with one of the kids, since they never slept threw the night lol I do go bed to before 10 cause i get up at 5. well im lucky if i make it til 10.

So, that diet was almost gluten-free and dairy-free, and you felt better. I would try the diet and see how you feel. If you feel better, you have your answer. If after a few months you still wonder, then challenge it be eating some gluten to see how you react.

Thinking back when i quit the diet, i got really sick, i was in bed for an week straight. I had thought the diet was causing havoc to my body. But now i bet i was glutened and i got sick from that. I cant remember exactly what i ate when i got so sick for that week. But i bet that was what happened.

So if i give up milk again, what can i take to replace my calcium, or should i try gluten free vitamins?

Looking back i remember so many people telling me how wonderful i was looking, that my skin was looking better and i was in better spirits.

Paula, in spite of all the advertising from the dairy industry, milk is a poor source of calcium. I used to know all the reasons why, but I haven't read about it in a long time .... I do know that the US has one of the highest consumption rates of dairy products and also has one of the highest osteoporosis rates.

Actually, vegan cultures have the lowest osteoporosis rate. No, I'm not vegan ... not vegetarian either. But protein lowers the absorption of calcium ... especially the way we eat protein in very large servings.

I use a lot of greens -- chard, collards, etc. Spinach's calcium is unavailable due to a chemical in the spinach ... not to say spinach isn't good for you, I love it and eat it a lot. I chop up greens and add them to something I'm making -- i.e. collards in rice, spinach in chili, chard in a casserole or stir fry.

Supplementation is also good.

thank you for all the info. I use to be an vegetarian til i met hubby, and he got me back to eating meat. Im really thinking of going back to those days. I will be going and buying lots of greens this week.

I just got back from taking my celiac panel test. Now i have to wait for about an week to find out. Im not a very patient person

      If you were off gluten for two months that would have been long enough to invalidate the celiac blood antibody testing. Many people make the same mistake. They experiment with the gluten free diet before seeking formal testing. Once you remove gluten from the diet the antibodies stop being produced and those that are already in circulation begin to be removed and often drop below detectable levels. To pursue valid testing for celiac disease you would need to resume gluten consumption equivalent to the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread daily for at least two weeks, preferably longer. These are the most recent guidelines for the "gluten challenge". Without formal testing there is no way to distinguish between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity since their symptoms overlap. However, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small bowel lining, not true of gluten sensitivity. There is no test available for gluten sensitivity so celiac disease must first be ruled out. By the way, elevated liver enzymes was what led to my celiac diagnosis almost 25 years ago.

      Then it does not seem to me that a gluten-related disorder is at the heart of your problems, unless that is, you have refractory celiac disease. But you did not answer my question about how long you had been eating gluten free before you had the blood antibody test for celiac disease done.

      My genetic test results have arrived - I’m homozygous for DQB1*02, meaning I have HLA-DQ2. I’ve read that this is one of the genes most strongly associated with celiac disease, and my symptoms are very clear. I’m relieved that the results finally arrived, as I was getting quite worried since my symptoms have been getting worse. Next step, blood test. What do these results imply? What should I tell my family? I’m concerned that this genetic predisposition might also affect other family members.

      Two months. In extreme situations like this where it’s clearly a smoking gun? I’m in LA so went to a very big hospital for pcp and gi and nutritionist

      So far 3 months in - worsening symptoms. I have had the worst constipation in my life and I am primarily eating naturally gluten-free foods like potatoes, eggs, salad with homemade dressing, corn tortillas, etc. I hate gluten-free bread and pasta so I don't eat it. Occasionally I eat gluten-free almond flour crackers. As stated in the post, I don't have any vitamin deficiency. I was already tested.
