Travelling To Spanish-speaking Country Help Please!

Hi all,

I'm leaving Friday with my family and although the majority of the staff at the resort we're visiting will speak English, I'd like to be able to clearly communicate with the cooking staff so that my 5yo DD will be able to enjoy her trip... Her only intolerance is to gluten.

Can anyone help me to translate the following questions to Spanish? (please don't mix my questions and your answers - I know very very (very :rolleyes: ) little Spanish!!! I'm trusting you!

Oh, and if you can add any questions I'm not thinking of feel free to add your own.

1. My daughter cannot eat anything containing wheat (enriched flour, white flour, wheat flour), rye (malt), barley or oats or she will get very ill. She cannot eat bread, cookies, baked goods, pasta, soya sauce, cereal prepared with these ingredients. Even one small crumb of bread will make her ill for days.

2. Does that have any sauce or seasoning on it that contains any of the above ingredients? Is it marinated during preparation?

3. Can you please clean the grill before making her food?

4. Can I please read the ingredients for this?

5. Can you please use a clean pan before making her food?

Unfortunatley I can't help with the translation but if you look at Open Original Shared Link they have printable cards that are in various languages.

The book Let's Eat Out has a whole section on different languages. If you can find that in a store you could copy them.

Also, if you can find staff that speak English you could either ask them to communicate with the kitchen or ask them to translate. I went to Mexico and was very surprised at how many people spoke English. I talked to the main chef who spoke perfect English and he communicated with the rest of the kitchen staff. They bent over backwards to make me safe food and I had a great time.

The travel cards that many of us order are written in Spanish on the back. They're called Triumph Dining Cards. Maybe you can get an express order.

      Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

      What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
