Frito-Lay Issues Voluntary Recall of 2 oz. Bags of Fritos Original Corn

Chips in 2 States Due to Undeclared Milk and Wheat=20

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Plano, TX -- March 9, 2007 -- Frito-Lay

announced the voluntary recall of 92 cases (5,520 bags) of 2 oz. bags of

Fritos Original Corn Chips. This lot is marked as Fritos Original Corn

Chips but may contain Fritos Chili Cheese Flavored Corn Chips. People

who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or wheat run the risk

of a serious life threatening allergic reaction if they consume the

Chili Cheese Flavored product.

This product has been distributed only in Texas and Louisiana. The

affected packages have been distributed to vending machines and food

service operations.

The only affected packages are 2 oz. bags of Fritos Original Corn Chips

that have a freshness date of May 8 located on the upper right hand side

of the package and with a 10 digit code number of 62730483692,

62730483592 or 62730483992, which appears immediately beneath the

freshness date.

No other code date, package size or flavor is impacted.

Consumers with any product of the lot code and package size noted above

can return product to point of sale or can contact Frito-Lay Consumer

Affairs at 1-800-352-4477.

I'm guessing that some chili cheese product was inadvertently packaged in regular fritos bags. "Serious life threatening allergic reaction", that's pretty dramatic. I doubt if a 2 oz bag of chili cheese fritos is gonna kill me. Have to give them credit for treating it seriously though. It's possible no one would have really noticed that much.

Actually Larry,there are people who have celiac to such a degree that they could die from eating such a small amount,it's different for each person. :( I personally know someone who is that sensitive,but on the other hand she never eats things like that that are packaged.

Well Larry, maybe we wouldn't die from it, but some of us certainly may feel like we are. I remember many times before knowing about celiac and being so sick that I would simply ask God, "Please, just take me now, I can't do this anymore!" I never had thoughts of suicide, never truely wanted to die, yet sometimes, I was so tired of hurting, so tired of hours of diarrhea, tired of disappointing my family, etc. I never take a chance on anything anymore. Of course, these Fritos Corn Chips are not a thread for me--I can't have corn!

for people who have anaphylactic reactions to casein and wheat (i.e., true allergies), this is important information to know-it IS life threatening.

What a glorious day it is in the DFW metromess, gonna be 80 degrees today. Perfect bike ridin weather.

Welcome to the forum mike. You were busy on your first day. An avatar, personal photo & info/statement! Wow, very impressive. Some don't ever do it, others like me take two months to get an avatar. What kind of bike is that? Mine - Yamaha V Star 650. Cool picture BTW.

I fostered a pug once named Pheobe Buffet.

I know a kid who has to carry an epi -pen because if he barely touches a wheat containing product, he will go into anaphalaxis. Never would have thought that was possible. His dad owns the gluten free restraunt down the street from my house. Its fabulous.

So, sadly, your shingles may be worse because you are coeliac. So sorry you had to go through this. My mother endured shingles multiple times. She was undiagnosed with coeliac disease until she was 65. Me at 45. I've had the new long lasting vaccine. It knocked me around badly, but worth it to avoid shingles.

      Hi all,  Looking for some advice. I started having some symptoms this past summer like night sweats and waking at 4 am and felt quite achy in my joints. I was doing some research and questioned either or not I might have celiac disease (since I didn’t have any gastric symptoms really). My family doctor ran blood screening for celiac. And my results came back: Tissue Transglutaminase Ab IgA HI 66.6 U/mL Immunoglobulin IgA 1.73 g/ My doctor then diagnosed me with celiac and I have now been gluten free for 3 months. In this time I no longer get night sweats my joint pain is gone and I’m still having trouble sleeping but could very much be from anxiety. I was since referred to an endoscopy clinic to get a colonoscopy and they said I should be getting a biopsy done to confirm celiac. In this case I have to return to eating gluten for 4-6 weeks before the procedure. Just wanted some advice on this. I seem to be getting different answers from my family physician and from the GI doctor for a diagnosis.    Thanks,

Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.
