At one time recipe zaar offered one as a starting point. Can't find it, they list over 6ooo gulten free breads. Can anyone help us out? Please and thank you

There is a challah bread recipie in "The Gluten Free Gourmet" Revised Edition by Bette Hageman as well as another sweet yeast bread recipie that has some candied fruits in it. I haven't tried them.

MEEEE TOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Damn Italians and their Easter bread! (lol - that is how I got my hips and thighs - lol!)

PLEASE post the challah recipe on here if you can! I will slap some almond-flavored icing and colored coconut on it and see if it works!

They are copywrited recipies from a book that is still being sold in bookstores so I'm not comfortable posting them. Maybe there's some other way ? Also your local library might have them. I've found several gluten-free cookbooks at mine.

Thanks for your efforts. I have just found a recipe that I will try to convert to gluten-free Flour., using a bread machine. Will share if it works. Until then, anyone else got a thought? I did make a great cherry cobbler last nite, and Wedding Soup.

In the same book there are recipies for Christmas Stollen using ricotta cheese, candied fruits and no yeast, baked on a cookie sheet long and flat and a hot cross buns recipie using yeast. I'm happy to share them, via e-mail just can't type so it takes me a while

Trying again to post this easter bread recipe. What a treat for husband to have toasted easter bread with lots of butter this a.m. Am satified that this recipe works. To find it , go to recipezaar.co and type in88299 in search box. then make the changes I am adding here. The basic recipe is just the same as my mother -in-law's except hers made six loaves instead of one. The bread is the courser, denser rustic style, not the "americanized version " that is now popular. It smells, looks and taste like the real thing. The only problem I had was that I baked it too long. Will correct next time.

Changes to the recipe.

Add juice of 1/2 lemon and 1/2 orange

zest of 1/2 lemon

zest of whole orange

1 tab/ pure anise flavoring

remove gluten (no brainer)

add 2.5 tsp of xanthum gum

increase yeast to 2 tsp.

I mixed the flavoring and zest in the liquids

I also melted the butter. (can you add it not melted in a bread machine?)

Flour mix

1cup brown rice flour

1 cup of white rice flour

1/2 cup of sweet rice flour

1/4 cup of Pot starch

1/4 Corn starch

1/ 4 cuo Tapi flour

1/4 cup of sorghum Flour

feel free to tinker with this. I would appreciate your critique. Am always willing to learn from others.

Hope you enjoy this and Happy Holidays to all

Thanks to miisy's Mom for the tech support.

In Europe there is an Italian company called Schar that makes really good gluten-free products.

You can find a recipe from their site for an Italian Easter Cake:

I have not tried this recipe but I looked on the box of "Mix C" and the ingredients are:

Corn Starch, Corn Flour, thickerner, locust bean gum - I was suprised of the ingredients b/c the mix is very light and fluffy. I am not sure what the measurments are but I cant see why you could not substitute a Pamelas Mix or one of your favorites.

I use this mix alot for Crepes that turn out fantastic!!!

Good Luck

It's been a tradition in my family for years! I wish I could find a recipe or a bakery that makes it.

If you don't find a good recipe, you can try to make mine, if you want to braid the bread use this:

https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/84873-simonas-braided-challah/page__st__75__gopid__785727#entry785727

Please read all tread! Specially my last post.

For the Italian bread cut the recipe in half, or make two at once, if you can (it will bake better).

I will make it today for Easter.

Or

This:

https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/85650-gluten-free-sandwich-bread/ , if you prefer softer bread. You can't braid with this dough, but you can use round pan with the hall in middle (like for bundt cake). Add 1 1/2 Tbsp. of sugar.

Bake them for 60-65 minutes, otherwise they will sink.

ok, sorry this is late. i wanted to make this at easter but forgot to get the gelatin. (plus, i didn't want to be so committed in case it turned out not so good) so i made it this week, and iced it with a simple vanilla icing (powdered sugar, butter, milk/water, vanilla extract) and sprinkled it with colorful sprinkles. i can not stop eating it. it SMELLS like a bakery..... mmmmmm......

this recipe is a keeper and it's pretty easy :) (go ahead and make it, you will eat the whole thing!)

Hello, @NCalvo822, Blood tests for Celiac Disease test for antibodies our bodies make in response to gluten exposure.  These Tg IgA 2 antibodies mistakenly attack our own bodies, causing problems in organs and tissues other than just the digestive tract.  Joints can ache, thyroid problems or the pancreas can develop.  Ataxia is just one of over two hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Some people with Celiac Disease also make tTg IgA 6 antibodies in response to gluten exposure.  The tTg IgA 6 antibodies attack the brain, causing ataxia.  These tTg IgA 6 antibodies are also found in people with Parkinson's disease, though they may not have Celiac Disease.  First degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of those diagnosed with Celiac should be tested as well.  Celiac is genetic.  Your mom and sister should be tested for Celiac, too!   Definitely a good idea to keep to a gluten free diet.

@Rebeccaj,  When you smell toast or pasta cooking, that means that particles of that food are floating around in the air.  Airborne gluten can then be inhaled and swallowed, meaning the food particles get into your digestive tract.   If you're careful to avoid gluten and are still having symptoms, those symptoms could be caused by vitamin deficiencies.

ok thanks for your advice. But my question was what happens when someone you know in a house is cooking pasta or toast that's flour  Airbourne without eating.?

Do discuss this recent article with your doctors.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is important to intestinal health.  Thiamine deficiency can occur in Celiac Disease due to malabsorption.  Supplementing with a B Complex, Benfotiamine, and Vitamin D can help symptoms.   Thiamine deficiency aggravates experimental colitis in mice by promoting glycolytic reprogramming in macrophages https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39890689/#:~:text=Our mechanistic study revealed that, necessary to protect against colitis. "Conclusion and implications: Our study provides evidence linking thiamine deficiency with proinflammatory macrophage activation and colitis aggravation, suggesting that monitoring thiamine status and adjusting thiamine intake is necessary to protect against colitis."

Do keep in mind that most gluten free flours are not enriched nor fortified with vitamins and minerals like gluten containing flours are required to do.   Consuming a diet high in carbohydrates without sufficient B vitamins to digest and process them into energy can lead to High Calorie Malnutrition and weight gain. Deficiency symptoms of B vitamins resemble gastrointestinal symptoms when after eating gluten.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a form of Thiamine deficiency.   Do talk to your doctors about supplementing with essential nutrients while on the gluten free diet, especially if you're consuming processed foods.
