Hello...brand new to the forum. My 15 year old, special needs, Type 1 diabetic daughter has recently tested positive for celiac despite being completely asymptomatic. "gold test" done last week. At the risk of sounding like I've got my head firmly in the sand, can anyone tell me if you've ever heard of blood tests being positive but biopsy coming back negative.

She's already dealing with so much that I guess I'm 'grasping at straws'. Will gladly embrace the gluten-free lifestyle with her if need be but...still curious.

You need to embrace the lifestyle even if the biopsies come back negative. Damage can be patchy and there is a lot of small intestine so it can be easy to miss. There are also forms of celiac/gluten intolerance that can really do some damage to other body systems long before the villi are damaged. No matter what the outcome of the biopsy you should do the diet strictly for at least a few months. Even asymptomatic celiacs have a high risk of many cancers and other autoimmune problems. Gluten is also a neurotoxin that can effect learning and behavior as well as moods.

Thank-you for such a knowledgeable reply! Based on what I've foind out so far, the gluten-free lifestyle sounds healthier even if you aren't celiac.

We were first told of DD's positive blood test 08/08/06 and I've been doing some 'research' ever since. Only this week did I come across this forum. Thank-you to all who participate. I feel so much less "alone" (if that makes any sense!)

You have found a great place for info and support. You may be surprised at the changes you see after a time. I know I was, I never realized how much was impacted till it wasn't any longer.

Your not alone and it can be overwhelming at first but it is so worth it in the end. The diet has been shown to have a positive impact with diabetics also, just watch the carbs in gluten-free specialty food. I'm type 2, the meds scared me so I am totally diet controlled and haven't had a morning reading over 95 in six months.

Hello,

Two of my blood tests came back possative, and my biopsy came back negative. I have had a very possative response from the gluten free diet. I am not sure if I have celiac or just have gluten intolerance, but either way the diet is the same. Everyone here is very helpfull and there is tons on information for new people.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.

Thanks for the resource! I will check it out!

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
