To Throw Out The Make Or Not To Throw Out The Makeup? Help!

Hi,

so im still fairly new tot he whole thing but im making advances on the food sides, however i am still getting poisoned occassionally and i have no idea where from!

i have read on some sites that gluten can not be absorbed through the skin, which would amke sense - but i know that my friend who cant tollerate nickle has been told to not wear make up with nickle in - and i have seen several posts on here about shampoos that are gluten-free and detergants and make up and things.. do i have to whole have my whole life gluten-free?! does it matter about things like shampoo and mascara and hand cream?

anyone have any idea about this in relation to lactose / cassin as well? as i have to avoid all dairy and lactose related products at the moe as well.

equally, if so where do i find the info?! i wrote to some of the companys but most havnt responded and the ones that did mostly said they list their ingrediants in accordence with the stanard manual of ingrediants (cant remeber the exact name) and thats not readily avaliable to the public with out a heft payment!

help?!

I am newly diagnosed too =

I wear bare essentials, or bare minerals - all there make-up is gluten free - I don't know if it is nickel free though.

Also, I had to take away any lotions as I was wearing one that had oatmeal in it, and my hand had a slight cut...well I still have a scar from it going inside the cut.

This bigger issue with makeup is that you're likely to touch your face and then eat your food and get contaminated that way. Some people do react to touching gluten products, but not all. I prefer to have my whole life gluten-free. When I go home, I have absolutely no worries about contamination or getting sick. I need my house to be a gluten-free zone in order to be 100% at ease there. I realize sometimes this is not possible, especially for those who live with other people.

Some companies are reluctant to give out ingredients because it's a "trade secret". If you do a search on this site, you'll find plenty of lists of gluten-free makeups. I use CoverGirl, Rimmel, Boots, Bonne Bell stuff. I read the package and usually go by that unless they make other products with gluten and I think there might be a contamination issue.

oh.. is boots own and rimmels stuff gluten-free free? i have mailed rimmel but they havnt replied to me yet.

I do live with other peeps, so im trying to make my world as gluten-free as possible but i figure its best to go as total as i can and put stuff back

Here's my response from Boots. They were pretty quick with the reply.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the No7 lipstick you purchased.

None of our lipsticks contain pure wheat rye, barley or oats. The No7 Moisture Drench lipsticks contain wheatgerm oil, therefore, if the allergy to gluten is strong, you may want to avoid using this product.

All of our skincare products are gluten free.

      Gluten Sensitivity

      Well, three months later and a startling revelation! After going gluten free (and nearly bankrupt buying special foods), my wife made a lunch of meat potatoes and gravy made with Bertolli white sauce - no wheat there right? Big flare up withing hours and I was really wiped out with it. She rechecks the label on the sauce bottle and right at the bottom...

      Unfortunately, the development of celiac disease usually is not an end in and of itself. It usually brings along friends, given time. It is at heart an immune system dysfunction which often embraces other immune system dysfunctions as time goes on.

      Thanks so much for the responses. I will urge him to go for further investigation. To be 48yrs old and develop a new allergy.. ugh, As if celiac disease isn’t enough!

      This does not seem to be an anaphylactic response but I agree it would be wise to seek allergy-food sensitivity testing. You might look into ALCAT food sensitivity testing.

      @Celiacpartner, I agree with Scott. We have a food festival yearly in the town I live in, with artisan food stalls everywhere. I spoke to the owner of one of the artisan burger stalls, enquiring if the burgers were gluten-free when I said I was Coeliac ... he said he had a serious anaphylactic allergy to fish himself. He possibly carries an epi-pen or...

      Well, three months later and a startling revelation!  After going gluten free (and nearly bankrupt buying special foods), my wife made a lunch of meat potatoes and gravy made with Bertolli white sauce - no wheat there right?  Big flare up withing hours and I was really wiped out with it.  She rechecks the label on the sauce bottle and right at the bottom of the ingredients XANTHAN GUM. There's our #1 suspect again!  So by way of experimenting, she decided to try making a loaf of bread with just regular white flour like she used to do and see what happened; the familiar smell hit me when I walked in the door last night and I sat down to eat this still warm, fresh goodness - I thought even if I have to take Imodium sandwiches, it will be worth it 😋 No ill effects, either overnight or today!  Half the loaf is now gone because I had some for supper, saving just one last slice for breakfast in the morning` - I've used the bathroom once and that was normal, so maybe it is not the gluten after all? Can't wait to try a beer! 😁
